Ambos at the Pocketbook Hotel in Hudson was overall excellent. The food was incredibly flavorful, the service was A+, and the cocktails and wine were outstanding. One of the meat dishes arrived a bit cold, which was disappointing given the higher price point, but it didn’t take away from an otherwise excellent meal. Highly recommended

My husband and I visited the Pocketbook for Valentines Day weekend and enjoyed an exceptional meal at the Ambos. The steak was expertly prepared, and the special pasta lobster dish was absolutely delicious. We shared a scruptuous chocolate mousse cake for dessert ending a perfect meal. The service was professional, warm and friendly. We are especially grateful to Lauren for making us feel at home.

Overall, my date and I had a great time at Ambos. The atmosphere was lovely, our server (whose name I can’t remember) was exceptional, and the drinks were well balanced.

The food felt like the ratios of things were just a little off. Good, but not quite great yet.

The raw oysters felt like there was a little too much finishing salt and not enough fermented tomato or smoked olive oil flavor. The fluke was missing the pickled cranberries that would’ve brightened it up more. And, the mutten was a little underdone, had two large pieces of fat-only out of four pieces, and no pepper flavor in sight.

From the description of the menu, the pickled/fermented flavors is the point and we felt like they were pulling their punches a little. Even the fermented honey in the house made bread just tasted like regular honey.

It seems like the restaurant is still new, and I would love to come back and see how things develop.

The bread. Get the bread. It’s so good.

They seem to be still getting their legs under them from a service perspective, but the food and space made up for the hiccups.

The standout for me was the chicory salad – perfection! The freshly baked bread, lamb, and culotte were also all excellent, and others in our group really enjoyed the crudo.

Space is industrial chic, with a nice open bar area. There didn’t seem to be a parking lot or signage and the hotel still seems like it was under construction, so it was a little confusing where to go. Head upstairs for the restaurant – you won’t be disappointed!

Brand new industrial chic space and still getting its sea legs. Menu is limited – cocktails and wine menu are quite good; $12 for a tiny loaf of bread is insulting; chicken dinner excellent; mutton dinner arrived lukewarm had to send back; staff is very attentive and tries their best; get rid of the techno boom boom music – some classy jazz would be so much more desirable; heads up – don’t sit by the windows in winter – drafty.

Comically overpriced. Left feeling like a subject in a controlled experiment.

6 pieces of lukewarm ravioli and 4 slices of chantarelle mushrooms for $40? As someone visiting from New York and accustomed to ravioli inflation, this price would have a restaurant ran out of Williamsburg.

Unforgettable rogel (three stale wafers layered between mysteriously blue cheese flavored meringue and dulce de leche-colored dollops).

Prices are nonsensical and offensive. Unfortunate experience in an otherwise nicely designed space.
