Welp it’s true that nothing ever stays the same. Tonight we decided to get a pizza. I talked everyone into getting Amato’s.
I have been a fan since the 80’s.
We would go to Chicago’s Galewood location which has been around since the 60’s I think.
Pizza was always delicious.
Fast forward to tonight.
We ordered a Cheese / Green Pepper/ Onion for pickup.
Order was ready as promised.
My friend picked it up right away and got it to us.
We were excited and hungry.
Presentation looked good and somewhat inviting.
Pizza was very bland and lukewarm.
Crust was sort of doughy in spots.
I had to add an abundance of crushed red peppers to help it.
Family members tried to push through a couple of slices but then stopped as did I.
So very disappointed.
However I do plan to go to another location in the city. (Chicago)
Just for nostalgia sake.
** Update**
I was contacted by someone from Amato’s who apologized for the experience we had. I appreciated them acknowledging my history with the chain. Old folks know the true history of Chicago Amato’s! We know how down right delicious it is.
I will revisit again.

I catered Amato’s for my husband’s retirement party and everyone loved the food, from the wings, sausage and peppers, meatballs, mostaccioli, and pizza! The food was fresh and full of flavor. Justin, one of the owners, was so helpful with planning and suggestions. I will definitely order from them again

Our new to us restaurant this weekend…Amatos in Naperville.
We ordered bread sticks and pizza. Bread sticks were just that..
Bread in stick form. Kind of dry
I wish they had butter or something on them. No big deal.
But this pizza. That pizza was SO good. The crust was perfectly cooked; not too thick but not too thin. The cheese was layered on and the sausage and pepperoni were under the cheese, which i prefer.
I want to make a mention about the staff. They were younger, teens or maybe early 20s. But the customer service in there was above anything I expected. They were polite and friendly. They were attentive and just really seemed to care that the customers were happy. It was so far beyond what you’re used to seeing, especially in a mostly carry out pizza place.
We would definitely return.

I was in the Aurora area for a business conference. I was looking for a good pizza place, and Amato’s caught my eye. I am so glad I gave it a try. I ordered the 12″ Double Dough Amato’s Special, and it was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful. I asked for extra napkins, peppers, and cheese. And they gave me as much as I wanted. If I am in the area again, I will definitely drop by. 10/10

First time trying this place and the last time. Let’s start with the service: I called to order a pizza for delivery and I was on hold for about 5 mins, not cool then delivery driver don’t deliver to your room if you are staying at hotel for whatever odd reason and they just call you for you to meet them in the lobby which defeats the purpose of delivery.
The pizza was just bad. No other way to put it. No flavor. It was just dough, cheese and meat put together in the oven. THEY put NO tomato’s sauce on it, it was dry as desert sand there must be a shortage of tomatoes because this place doesn’t use IT on the pizza smh. By far one of the worst pizza in terms of flavors that I have ever tried. The dough was saggy like your eating bread and melted cheese. I can’t remember the last time I tried a pizza this bad. I wish I could just get my money back I can’t even eat the pizza so dry. Save yourself the money and try a different place you will thank me later.

Normally pizza is good but tonight we tried the molti gusti pizza and got a mess. Very greasy due to excess of toppings which this pizza obviously has a long list of toppings but I figured it’d be within moderation, not just handfuls everywhere. flavor was ok except for the slices that hit the ground when I was handed the box (which seemed to be disintegrating)
I should note that I did call and the somewhat confused employee did credit our account. We will still order from here, just not this pizza.

I called other pizza joints on new years day and most were closed. These guys were open and delivered!
Checked on the website and found an extensive list of pizza options and other good looking food.
Ordered a medium thin crust cheese pizza with garlic and extra sauce.. came out to $20.. ordered a large pan pizza with a bunch of toppings ($2.50 for each), extra sauce and well done. Total plus 20% tip came out to $80.
While that is a lot to pay for two pizzas being delivered 7mins away, everyone was 100% pleased with the pizza. It was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had and I get to eat pizza all the time in the city.
This place is definitely on a different level. The pan pizza was so substantial that everyone (except me) only ate one piece.. Thin cheese was demolished by the whole crew. We still have 3 pan pieces left which I am going to try and eat by myself.
I will definitely be ordering from here more often and it is now in the race for my top pizza spot with another local favorite (that was closed on new years).
Thanks again for a great dinner. Hope to try the rest of the menu in good time.

The staff is always friendly. Food is always pretty good. And the prices are very reasonable. Always a good lunch place for me.
