I was craving a good sandwich and have been to Charlie’s plenty of times in Orange County (Santa Ana and Orange), and I always love it, so I had high expectations for this place based on the reviews. Unfortunately, it was a total letdown and very disappointing. I ordered the Philly cheese, which was $25, and with the cheese fries it came out to almost $40 way overpriced for the quality. I didn’t even finish my sandwich the meat wasn’t cooked well, had a couple pieces of gristle in it, and was so tough I couldn’t even chew it, as you can see in the photo. The cheese fries were probably better at Wienerschnitzel. The fries had no flavor at all. Overall, not worth it. You’re better off going somewhere else if you’re craving a good sandwich. On top of that, they don’t even serve Coke only Pepsi products.

The menu has changed from the last time I visit this place. It seems that they’re trying to minimize the amount of items there since most of the items that were removed from the menu were not much ordered by customers. Or it could be that they’re trying to cut costs.
Nothing has really changed so far. I find that the fries are better than the cheesesteaks in my opinions since they’re freshly cut with some extra crispiness. Doesn’t really mean that the cheesesteaks are bad. I’m still shocked that not only that small fries are like regular fries but the smallest size of the cheesesteaks, which is shorty, is like a regular size.
Pretty much the atmosphere is the same except that they added a kiosk for us to order online. I still say that this is one of the cheesesteak restaurants in the Bay Area.

Even though we came in about 30 minutes before close, they were super friendly. Food was amazing!!! They do it better than a lot of places actually in Philly!!!! Definitely swing by and make this a go too. So good!!!

Still just as delicious as I remember! I came here nearly 20 years ago, and the cheesesteaks are still absolutely mouthwatering. Bill, the owner, was off today (it is Sunday after all — well deserved!) but the food and the staff were as friendly and welcoming as ever. A true classic that never disappoints.

Very, very disappointing cheesesteaks. We’ve been coming to Amato’s for over 20 years now and have always loved them. Prior to today, we ate here three years ago. It was okay then, not great but just okay. Today wasn’t good at all. We got three cheesesteaks and one order of fries for sixty dollars and really didn’t enjoy them one bit.
Our sandwiches were extremely dried out, almost burned without much cheese. I got “the works” with EXTRA cheese and mushrooms. I could barely find ANY mushrooms and the onions and bell peppers were over-cooked to oblivion. At home I had to open the sandwich up and spray water on the meat and reheat it in the microwave (I finally added some mayo, too).
What happened to the screaming good cheesesteaks they used to make? They were so rich with gooey melted cheese with fresh veggies you could actually see and taste. They were highly reviewed with an excellent reputation and took pride in their food. I didn’t see any of that today. Their prices have gone up but their quality has gone way down. A real bummer.

4/5 for the beef hoagie and meatball sub. It was good for the price. Fresh ingredients but nothing special. Would come here again.

5/5 Stars – Perfect Spot for a Hearty Lunch
Amato’s is an absolute gem! The restaurant is clean and well-kept, with a tidy open kitchen that gives you full confidence in their food hygiene. Portions are generous—definitely enough to satisfy any appetite. The Philly cheesesteak was loaded with tender steak strips, perfectly melted cheese, and flavorful mushrooms. Each bite had the right balance of chewiness and rich, savory taste. The bread was soft and fresh, not too heavy, which made the sandwich even better.
Service was fast and friendly, ideal for a lunch break. Plus, there’s plenty of parking, which makes it super convenient. Whether you’re stopping by for work or just hungry for a solid meal, Amato’s hits the spot.

Hanging out with Kinky Lyn the pole dancer at the Hightimes over on Blossom Hill, and she says she wants a roast beef sandwich from Amato’s..and we’re right in front of the Sourdough Deli! No…She says it’s gotta to be Amato’s or there’s no happy ending for you! So…off we went, and the sandwichs were Amazing! ☆☆☆☆☆

This spot is pretty damn delicious. Generous portions and a great value. Their cheese steaks are loaded with meat, although I would prefer a little more cheese in stock form. Overall, it’s a solid establishment I would recommend visiting and this is definitely going into my lunch rotation.
