Our starters came out cold, so we quietly moved our plates to the side as we were planning to politely ask for fresh ones – we weren’t looking to cause any issues at all, just hoping to have them replaced. The chef/kitchen staff seemed to notice before we were able to ask for ourselves and asked a member of staff to come over and check if everything was okay. We explained calmly that the food was cold and asked if we could just get new starters instead.
While waiting on our fresh starters the atmosphere became quite uncomfortable. The chef kept staring at us from the kitchen hatch, which felt very intimidating. I initially tried to ignore it, but it continued to the point where I looked back at him hoping he would stop. The staring carried on, and I then overheard him pass comment on me in a very unpleasant tone pass which also involved swearing. This was shocking and completely unprofessional to hear as a customer and it really upset me.
I asked to speak to a manager and was told to sit while someone came over. When the manager arrived, I immediately felt dismissed. Before I even had the chance to explain what had happened, he told me he had already spoken to the chef and that the chef said he hadn’t said anything. By that point, replacement mozzarella sticks arrived, but the situation had already made us feel so uncomfortable that we decided to leave.
What upset us most was that when we said we were leaving, there was no attempt to resolve things or even check on us – the manager simply walked away.
It’s a shame, as the issue started with something small that could have easily been fixed, but the way the situation was handled made what should have been a nice Valentine’s evening feel very unpleasant.
We have been to this restaurant numerous times as we loved it here however we will not be back.
Food was OK. Not the worst, not the best in most cases. It was well presented, but just lacking flavour. Ceasar salad was delicious though and husband enjoyed his calzone, although the sauce was also missing “something”.
Husband also enjoyed the calamari.
I’d go back if invited or if I got a free voucher but probably not off my own back.
