Amara is Belmont’s Mediterranean escape. A lush garden with live trees, water, and a citrus-cedar scent sets the tone for slow dinners and sun-lit brunch. Warm pita leads into Mezze, Green or Black hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Muhammara, and Mirza Ghasemi. Stay for whole grilled branzino, Moroccan-spiced half chicken, and cocktails shaped by Mediterranean flavors with zero-proof parity. End with the praline-pistachio opera cake the Chronicle says is worth the drive. Located in Carlmont Village with easy parking. Reservations on OpenTable.

Reviews
If you haven’t been to Amara yet, are you even living?! We had an experience that was easily a 12/10, and I’m still dreaming about that pita bread.
The Sip List
• Ambrosia Mocktail: 10/5 Stars! This isn’t just a drink; it’s an experience. It comes with a chocolate ring on top that is absolutely out of this world. Consider this your “Must-Order” directive!
• Kumathra: A very solid, refreshing choice. Rated a cool 4/5.
️ The Main Event (The Eats!)
• The Pita Bread: THE STAR OF THE SHOW. They bake this just one hour before serving, and you can tell. It is hands-down the best pita bread you will ever have. Period.
• Muhammara: Distinct, nutty, and delicious. Another “must-try” for the table!
• Black Hummus: A very unique dish! ⚠️ Pro-tip for my Veggie friends: The fried element is actually fish, so it’s not vegetarian. It was a cool experiment, but the Muhammara stole my heart.
• Roasted Butternut Squash & Braised Kale Ravioli: Large, tasty portions. If it had just a splash more sauce, it would be perfect, but still a strong 4/5.
• Baked Cabbage: Absolutely delicious with a killer Mediterranean sauce. 5/5!
The “Sweet” Finish
The owner, Ajay, treated us to some complimentary desserts that blew our minds:
1. Date Cake: This is Vegan AND Gluten-Free, but you’d never know it. Pure magic. 5/5.
2. Olive Oil & Tahini Gelato: A savory-sweet gelato that sounds wild but tastes incredible. Super unique! 4/5.
The All-Star Team
The service here is what really elevates the meal. James, our server, is a legend. He actually listened to what we liked and steered us toward the best items on the menu. He knows that menu inside and out!
We also met Ajay, the owner (who also runs two other famous Bay Area spots!). You can tell he takes immense pride in his craft—he was personally handling check-ins and making sure every guest felt like royalty.
The ambience was absolutely beautiful — 10 out of 10.
The food was delicious — 8 out of 10. We would have given it a 10, but the desserts, while beautifully plated and visually stunning, were not great. In particular, the cheesecake could have been closer to a traditional cheesecake in flavor and texture. On the positive side, the branzino was outstanding, the broccoli was unique and flavorful, and the mushrooms were especially tasty.
Service was exceptional most of the time, though occasionally a bit hurried. The main issue was that we ordered several dishes to share, and they brought everything at once, which felt overwhelming. When we mentioned it, they kindly took some dishes back until we were ready, and our server later apologized for not spacing the courses — which we appreciated.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely return.
