Sorry for withholding a star, but, well, you know.
We are visiting from the mainland; aren’t most of us?
We just had pizza, but it was great and had a nice unique flavor.
The atmosphere isn’t for everyone. If you would like to hear 78 years worth of the interesting life of Mario, this is the place. There was one very nice couple dining on pizza as well, regulars I might add, that made for good conversation.
Wife Kelly was sweet and a great cook.
You won’t find a place like this in very many towns and some may say that’s a good thing. We say we were lucky for the opportunity to eat there and to have an experience not often enjoyed.

I walked up to the Italian Restaurant, “Amalfatano’s” simply out of curiosity.. it is about a 2 minute stroll from my residence. Sitting out front was owner Mario, who owns and runs the place with his wife, Kelly. Mario is a great host, but I was truly impressed by the vegetarian sandwich I ordered. At a later date, I sampled the Pizza Experience at Amalfatano’s. Positively The Big Island’s BEST genuine Italian cuisine! Good size servings at a price that won’t break your bank, great service and just downright enjoyable. I’ll be back.

Best spaghetti and meatballs in East Hawaii. Everything served family style. $35 for 3 of us. We had a big bowl of salad that was more than enough for 3. The salad was fantastic. Meatballs tasted like grassfed beef and spaghetti sauce is the kind only a real Italian would serve. Atmosphere is dreary but food makes up for that.

Excellent pizza pie. A medium size was more than enough for two people. Very nice proprietor. Ambiance is subjective. Could use background music. BYOB. Sorry I didn’t take a picture of the pizza.

I’ve just learn about this restaurant, though my cousins band fun raser.
I tried the pizza it’s a genuine Italian pizza.
The husband and wife that runs the restaurant make you feel like your eating a home cooked meal.
I know I’ll be back again soon.

Went to this place while on a trip with a very large group. The dining area seemed as if it was the living room in a house. Very cramped and kept whacking my knee on the inside of the table. They gave us expired sodas that were good in February and it was July. Waitress was very rude as she asked “Can you move that so I can set this down” in such a sarcastic and rude tone. When the food came out it was okay, but made many feel sick later on. The restrooms were not in the building which was okay but there was a slab of plywood instead of your regular restroom stall wall. Towards the end when the owner came out, it seemed as if he didn’t have pants on. I would never return and do not comprehend how it had good reviews earlier.

Decent pizza, everything else is pretty mediocre. However, it is strangely managed. If you show up on a Friday to order pizza to go, even when calling ahead to see if they are open, there is a good chance you will be told they don’t have enough food to serve you or will just not be open.

Going to dinner here was great – it was like going over to a family friend and sharing life with them along with great salad and some of the best pizza we’ve had on island in 3 years of living here. Definitely coming back. It’s cash only.
