Next level Mexican fare in a fresh, funky, Pueblo-inspired environment. The flavors are complex and delectable, and served by an extremely well trained staff. Well worth the wait for a table, so definitely make a resy. We had the tuna tostada, and tried the salsa and homemade chip sampler, which they leave on the table for you to experiment with adding flavors to your entree. Ours was the chicken adobo…a brine-infused tender pile of perfectly slow cooked beautifulness. There are seven different salsas inspired by different regions in Mexico. My fave was the cashew salsa-yes, cashew. It was mind blowingly delicious! The bar is also fully stocked with regional Mexican libations and a full menu of Agave spirits. Wow. Also a lounge area to grab a drink while you wait for your table. Go. You won’t be disappointed!

First time here this weekend and had such a wonderful experience! Vibes inside are airy and contemporary. Our server Ben was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us pick great options – he also guided me on a great mezcal selection for my cocktail. The tuna tostada was super fresh, the swordfish tacos were tasty (one of the salsas was quite spicy! but balanced with the labneh) and the star of the show was the steak which was cooked perfectly. The oysters were also such a nice surprise! We would absolutely come back – it was busy, but items were coursed out well and we never felt rushed. If anyone is looking for an elevated Mexican dining experience in the city, you won’t be disappointed!

We had an amazing experience here! Let’s unpack why:
– the service is very friendly. They checked on us just the right amount and gave us a little treat for our friend’s birthday.
– the food is delicious. We very much enjoyed the lamb birria and this lobster soup they had a special. The tostadas and chips were also very good. Dessert was a highlight (churros and tres leches)
– the ambience is very nice. Spacious, high ceilings, nicely lit, but not overly formal at the same time.
We would go back again for certain!

AMA is a chill low light atmosphere. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu giving us very detailed descriptions of the players even down to the portion size. The food was very flavorful and table sharing friendly. In the pic is their chips and salsa and Cesar salad. Catch an uber because parking is NON-EXISTENT!!! Outside of that it’s cool. Our bill was about $200 with 4 people eating.

From start to finish, Ama fully impressed and has made it to my top favorite restaurant list in the city.
The ambiance is beautiful. Modern sleek meets warm adobe vibes. The staff? Incredible. Super knowledgeable on every single dish. Enthusiastic and service? 11 out of 10. Honestly some of the best table service I’ve ever had in my life.
Now onto the menu… which is listed from smallest portions to largest portions and it’s recommended (for 2) you grab an entree plus 2-3 small dishes.
We decided on three small plates and the chicken for our entree:
1. Aguadechile del dia: This was a scallop dish that came with a habanero vanilla bean aguadechile that was poured overtop tableside, alongside shavings of rainbow carrots, sliced Persian cucumbers, and toasted peanuts for crunch. It came with corn tortilla crackers and was all in all solid but missing a little acid and sweetness. The scallops were melt in your mouth and succulent though.
2. Shrimp Ceviche Tostada: Literally crack. The best ceviche, let alone shrimp, I’ve had in my life. The shrimp tasted like it was literally just tossed in the acid right before being served on a perfectly fried tostada, schmeared with a crema and avocado sauces and topped with what looked like cherries. 20 out of 10. ORDER THIS.
3. Charred Cabbage: This was a wedge of perfectly cooked cabbage served atop of pippin verde and sprinkle with sprouts and almonds. All in all this was good but a likely pass the next time we go. It was missing some heat and again acid, and perhaps even some sweetness. Like candied pepitas to go along with the verde sauce instead of almonds.
4. Pollo a La Lena: SOLIDDDDD. The mole sauce was drinkable. The chicken? Perfectly cooked, tender and juicy and perfect by itself or rolled into the corn tortillas it came with. The side of roasted potatoes and aji verde sauce (CRACK) they came with? FANTASTIC. Better than the cabbage. Could’ve drank the sauce by itself and we were drizzling over the cabbage!
5. Tres Leches: Standard with a mango cream center. Pretty solid and beautifully presented but not a “wow” (although it’s the chef’s wife’s favorite).
The margaritas were fresh and the vibe and food made for a fantastic meal. Will absolutely be returning (and you should too!)

If I can give 10 stars, I would. Amá stands out with their authentic Mexican upscale food! Living in the west coast and Mexico before, I know that there’s so much potential with the Mexican gastronomy and Philadelphia definitely has room to grow. Amá really fulfills that gap. From their homemade salsas (you can taste the different chile that goes into each) to their tortilla chips (crisp and fresh), you know the kitchen staff really pays attention to all the details that goes in their food. We also enjoyed particularly the fresh shrimps on tostada, the tempura huauzontle leaves, the lamb birria (the absolute crowd pleaser). The kitchen took such amazing care of us; the front of house constantly came back to check in on us and made us feel so warm and welcome. I absolutely cannot recommend less to anyone in the tri state area who’s looking for authentic Mexican flavors and is willing to splurge for any special occasions.
¡Nos vemos pronto, Amá! Con mucho amor.

This restaurant is the best meal that I have had in all of Philadelphia. Every dish that we got was equally delicious and beautiful. The salsas were so fun to mix, with each of them presenting a different flavor. The Caesar is my new favorite salad. The shrimp were a standout. The Lamb Neck Birria I’ll be dreaming about. And for desert, the Tres Leches was chefs kiss. But above all, our server, Ivan, made the experience so enjoyable. He not only knew every detail about the food, but he was so excited to explain the ingredients and meaning to each dish. If you visit, I hope you have the pleasure of having him as your server. 11/10 no notes.

The food was amazing! All the seafood was super fresh and delicious, and the carne asada was juicy and flavorful. The portions are a bit small for the price, but the quality definitely makes up for it. The cocktails were great too! The ambience is nice, though not very cozy.

Upon walking into Ama, you are immediately drawn to the bar. It’s really beautiful. We sat at the bar first and had a drink before our dinner. Our bartender was very personable very friendly and very knowledgeable about the drinks listed on the menu. I will post photos of our cocktails. We had a very knowledgeable and attentive server who was able to explain everything about each dish. The atmosphere at times can be a bit noisy so I did not get his name. I was with two other people who are more than familiar with Mexican Cuisine. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I cannot tolerate hot sauces. Even though the server guaranteed that some are less hot than others, it all comes down to what you can tolerate yourself. He did ask us if anyone has a dietary restriction or allergy. Two of us at the table cannot eat cilantro. So we were guided as to which dishes were heavily seasoned with the herb. However, our main dish was the lamb and it was delicious. I did eat this in the freshly made Tortillas but I did not add the additional sauce choices because of the heat intensity. I added a piece of avocado, some lime juice, and some onion. We got the grilled pineapple with the coconut sorbet for our dessert. It was a nice and refreshing addition to cool down my palate from sampling hot sauces. If you love Mexican Liquors, Mexican food, hot sauces, and cilantro, this is the place for you.

From the moment we walked in, the experience was beyond amazing! The service was over the top—friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly cared for. The food was outstanding: generous portions, incredible flavors, and every dish came out beautifully prepared.
The ambiance was absolutely beautiful, creating the perfect backdrop for celebrating my dad’s 30th year in the country. What made it even more special was being invited to tour the kitchen—spotless, organized, and full of energy. The chef was so sweet and welcoming, taking the time to chat with us and making us feel like family.
This wasn’t just a meal, it was an unforgettable experience. We left full, happy, and with the warmest memories. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for amazing food and a truly special dining experience! ❤️
