My Gorgeous Wife, Beautiful Mother, Head Strong Sister and Brilliant Son visited Alteri’s Italian Restaurant for dinner. We had just seen him perform in a school play at Hamilton College and we needed to kill some time before we returned to watch the final evening show. My wife picked the restaurant and as always, she picked a winner. The atmosphere was friendly (4 1/2 stars), our waitress was down to Earth and attentive (4 stars) and the food was made fresh, served hot and was full of flavor (4 1/2 stars). We started out with some garlic bread and pickle fries for the table. My mom ordered the shrimp dinner, my wife and son ordered personal pizzas and my sister and I got the Gnocchi. The food took a little longer to be served than I am used to but it was well worth the wait. Unfortunately, I had to rush through dinner to get my son back to Hamilton so that he could prepare for his show. I was unable to say goodbye to our waitress but I left my wife, sister and mom to share my experience and thanks. Overall we gave Alteri’s 4 1/2 stars. We are looking forward to visiting again with great anticipation.

Disappointing Experience

Unfortunately, our experience was far below expectations. Even giving one star feels generous. Our server was noticeably unprofessional—abrupt with our group, walking away in the middle of our drink order, and loudly issuing commands to her coworkers.

Service was extremely slow; we waited about an hour for food that was not only overpriced but also of poor quality. Also, the wings are priced at $30 for 20 or $17 for 10. We ordered 20 wings with two different flavors (half and half), but were charged for two separate 10-piece orders. When we asked about the discrepancy, she responded rudely, stating that any split-flavor orders are charged as separate orders. While this policy may be in place, it’s not standard practice and should have been communicated when we ordered.

Additionally, although I’ve seen from other reviews that a children’s menu is available, none was provided for our young children (ages 2, 4, and 9), which was another disappointment.

Overall, we would not return and do not recommend this establishment based on the service, communication, and food quality we experienced.

Feels like home at Alteri’s! Cozy family friendly atmosphere. Their chicken parm is to die for… one of the best I’ve ever had. We started with the “Antipasto for One!” .. that thing was instagrammable!! So delicious. (And enough for 2 people!) Our server Mallory was very attentive and friendly. The food came out pretty quickly, especially considering how fresh/homemade everything tasted.

Take some time while you’re there to look around at all the meaningful artifacts on the walls – so much local history. We also loved the copper teapots!

Can’t wait to go back. Honestly can’t wait to eat our leftovers in the fridge either lol.

The ambience of the restaurant is quite good. The waitress who filled the waters was very sweet and attentive. Other than that, my meal was disappointing. The food came very late. The people who came before us got it before. A simple tuna sandwich should not be this bad. plus chips were stale

Not what I was expecting for such a popular name. This was my poor example of Ziti (full size dish) at $10 for the plate. It was simply pasta with sauce I could make at home for $1.50. I finished in 3 minutes and watched everyone else eat.

Called in an order- antipasto for two. They weren’t busy, but it seemed to take a long time to make an antipasto. 40 minutes. The lettuce was fresh and there was plenty of meat and cheese. They also used artichokes, black olives, and some marinated veggies. It was very good. I will definitely be back.

Alteri’s is family owned and you can feel the warmth dining there. Staff are friendly and the food made with love! They have some uniquely delicious sandwiches like The Mort and Roman is tasty too! The Big Salad and the Cheesy Bread should start every meal!

Went here on a Saturday evening around 5 pm. Was not busy maybe 4 other tables of people while I was there and some people at the bar. Old style restaurant atmosphere. Love the wood look and all the hockey memorabilia. The service was very quick and very friendly. Everything came out as ordered. Antipasto salad has so many things in it, but was not a huge fan of the dressing, it was just okay. Meal comes with generic bread and butter. I had the Italian wedding soup. It was okay, Spaghetti Warehouse in Syracuse has better. I had the ravioli in their house sauce. It was good, but I have had better homemade, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Angottis in Syracuse. My dad had the homemade lasagna and really liked it. Portions were generous. No complaints. Plan on going back to try their pizza.

WORST .., literally…. Worst service EVER. We didn’t even get a chance to sit down yet. The woman running the podium (Sherry) should not be dealing with people. Absolutely running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Rude to customers, even more rude to the poor woman behind the bar. Barking orders to everyone, barely calling out names to people who are waiting for tables, mumbled the name once, then mumbled a second time, and before the name was out of her mouth the second time, said “going twice…”, and then said, forget it & went on to the next people (group of 4). The bar area was busy, which is where people have to stand, so it’s difficult to hear.

We were told that a table would take about 20 minutes. We stood there for 50, (our choice), and watched obvious locals come in (they chatted up other folks there, as well as bartenders who seemed very friendly and sweet), and be seated ahead of us. We watched a couple come in. Stand there literally for seven minutes after chatting and be seated. Saw their name be put on the list in front of ours. I questioned, then was told they had a “reservation on the phone”. Suddenly. NO apologies or even updates, zero. They don’t care. It’s a revolving door, and if you’re lucky enough to get in when the door is spinning around, then good for you. It wasn’t even busy when we walked in and thought we were lucky. It turned into a madhouse about 10 minutes later. Our name was on the list in the third spot when we walked in. A group of three people ahead of us, and another pair. No one else. How that turned into us standing there for 50 minutes watching couple after couple be seated, I have no idea. Had nothing to do with reservations. As we turned around after waiting PATIENTLY that long, obviously upset, we got a sarcastic “have a nice day“. This is how they treat people who are obviously new to the area and not local. New faces. My jaw is literally still on the ground.

DON’T bother … i’m sure there are many other wonderful food establishments and restaurants who deserve – and will APPRECIATE – your business.

(PS; the other two groups were also NOT happy!!!)

Waited 1 1/2 hours to be served our food after we sat down. We had a reservation. Takeout orders seemed go get preference. A one hour wait for a pizza if you ordered one at your table. Tables were not turning over for new customers. We asked if they were sort staffed. They said no. Food was good but not worth the wait. Won’t be going back.
