Als French Frys: Home

Al’s French Frys was started by Al and Genevieve Rusterholz in the late 1940’s. Their fabulous french frys quickly made Al’s into a Burlington-area institution.

This place is a childhood favorite of my dad’s. The fries were so so so amazing. and the portion sizes were absolutely massive, they do not cheat you at all. the burgers were pretty good, a little small but delicious. the pricing was good for the amount of food we got. the vibe was fantastic, it was very old-timey diner. and the service was wonderful

This place is local fav and been around awhile. I have two issues with this place. Most importantly, it’s not clean. Lots of food on floors and tables were mostly messy after someone left. Second, for a place called Al’s French fries, the fries stink. They were short stubby pieces and not very fresh. Horrible actually. If they had five guys fries this place would be a different story. So, the burger is ok. Fries stink. I’d probably go elsewhere.

Al’s French Frys
Consistent Comfort Food with Nostalgic Charm

Al’s French Frys is one of those rare places where you always know exactly what you’re going to get in the best way possible. The food is consistently delicious, satisfying, and made just the way you remember it from the last visit.
My past orders have included: a quart of their famous Frys (the large), a large order of onion rings, double cheeseburgers with lettuce and tomato (I add onions, extra pickles, ketchup, and mustard at the end), a double cheeseburger with extra pickles, mustard, and ketchup added at the end, the crispy chicken sandwich with bacon on the side (plus extra pickles and mayo on the side), a root beer with no ice, and a large chocolate shake.
The Frys are always fried to perfection crisp on the outside with a soft, fluffy inside. The onion rings are beautifully fried, light and crisp with a sweet bite, and never that disappointing bite where the onion slides out of the batter. The burgers are thin, juicy, and full of flavor, with only the occasional bit of gristle. The crispy chicken sandwich is crispy without being oily, with tender meat. Occasionally you might get a bite with a ligament, but it’s rare. I’ve had the mozzarella sticks in the past but they’re not my personal favorite, but certainly decent. I have also had the mac and cheese and feel it is lacking flavor, it is probably my least favorite item on their menu that I have had. I’m looking forward to trying their chicken wings soon; I caught the smell (and the envy) after seeing someone enjoying them during a recent ice cream stop.
One suggestion: I wish the online menu had more detail. It would be helpful to know exactly what comes on each burger or sandwich (cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, etc.), and what’s available to add at the end (ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, relish, etc.). Also if it is a crispy or grilled chicken sandwich. It would make customizing orders and ordering for friends and family easier.
This is comfort food, and when that’s what I’m craving, Al’s delivers every time.
Their creemees are also a highlight: I love a small: half chocolate, half maple creemee with a chocolate dip, served in a dish. It’s the perfect sweet treat.
The atmosphere is warm and nostalgic. The outdoor play area is a great touch, especially for families, and makes it easy to spend a few hours just enjoying the space. While the building could use a few updates especially the restrooms and some playground updates as well it doesn’t take away from the charm or experience.
Al’s French Frys is a long time favorite of mine when I want good, consistent, comforting food in a relaxed, nostalgic, and fun setting.

Burgers, fries, and corndogs were good. The patties on the burgers were disappointingly small. Good size for kids, but not foodies like me. Friendly staff!

Fantastic fries, amazing shakes, cool hats as well. Inviting place to hang out (until 11 PM!). Planning to purposely stop here anytime we are passing through Burlington headed to anywhere to/from Montreal from now on. Wish we knew about this iconic place before! THANKS AL!

The french fries are crispy and very good. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed. Big portion of chicken strips, etc.. There were no complaints. Small soft ice-cream was big.

Old-school burger place that’s right up my alley. Ordering was easy. You just have to wait in line and then try to find an open table. Burgers were tasty, and the fries were really good. They play oldies music in the background, which adds to the nostalgia. Don’t miss this place if you’re in the area.

We stopped by Al’s because it was next door to our hotel and had the appearance of a charming diner. I ordered a grilled cheese and it was the worst of my life. It was a swished hamburger bun with a single slice of cheese. In transparency, I should have expected this. It cost $1.88. My husband had a fish sandwich, which he ordered with tartar sauce that didn’t come. Our boys ordered fried chicken that was heavy on the fried, light on the chicken. The fries were decent.

It’s classic french fries with gravy on the side. Fries are perfectly cooked, gravy is delightful and it scratches that itch. If you have an itch for French fries? Go here.

Stopped by for lunch, the aesthetic is phenomenal. It looks like a 60’s fast food joint was plucked out of the past and placed right here. Food was decent, I liked the burger and the fries were nice and crispy.
