They can tailor the spiciness to whatever level you want and most dishes had meat-free options or you could add a protein of your choice so it’s very customizable. Everything tasted fresh and was definitely made in house from scratch or close to it.
Very “no frills” in the way of ambiance and decor but the food more than makes up for that (or you can do takeout – which we saw a lot of people come in for).
Chicken laab (laab gai or larb gai) isn’t supposed to be soaking in a broth. One of the delights about this dish is that this classic Thai dish offers a wonderful play between the ground chicken and the lettuce. Crucial to a laab is toasted ground rice, mint, cilantro, scallions… I’m stunned that the cooks clearly haven’t bothered to learn the basics of this simple , beautiful , classic dish.
The tom kha gai was equally uninspired, to say the least. Instead of a rich, luxurious coconut cream-based soup finished with fresh cilantro leaves, it was like something out of a can. The overcooked chicken was hard as rubber. The broth: an insipid, watered-down insult to another classic Thai dish.
It’s stunning. One weekend reading through a Thai cookbook and you could do ten times better than this. What an insult to Thai cuisine and to the customers who, I suspect, have little idea just how fantastic these simple dishes can be when done right.
For those who think this is good Thai food, I admire you, because you still have, in your future, the experience of tasting real Thai food the way it’s supposed to made. No one pretends that Lake County restaurants have much to recommend them. This is not a foodie community. But Aloy Dee Thai Cuisine? Boy, have they lowered the bar.
This was mine and my fiancés first time at Aloy Dee Thai. We were greeted immediately upon walking in, and seated promptly. I’m guessing it was the owner who was taking care of us, (I forgot to get his name) but he went above and beyond making sure we had everything we needed.
The restaurant is very clean and spacious inside. The presentation of the food is beautifully put together. The flavors of the food is just out of this world delicious!
We were started off with a salad, and let me tell you… The salad dressing was so good, that after I ate the salad, I drank the rest of the dressing. Delicious. Then we ordered 2 starters. The first was crab Rangoon, which comes with a sweet chili Thai sauce that’s addicting. We also got the chicken basil rolls that have a peanut dipping sauce. Really bold seasonings and flavors!
Main entrée we went with the pineapple fried rice which has shrimp, beef, chicken, pineapple, cashews, peas, raisins, carrots, etc. and the portion size was huge! I liked the sweet chilli Thai sauce from the crab Rangoon so much that I added that in with my rice as well.
We also placed a to-go order to bring home with rest of our pineapple fried rice we had left.
I had asked about the sweet sticky rice with mango, and was so happy that it was available since it’s a seasonal item. So, we brought that home as well. I can’t wait to come here again and try new things. The menu has a lot of choices to pick from, and lots of vegetarian and vegan options as well!
If you’re looking for a restaurant that has great food with amazing flavors, excellent customer service, and a friendly warm and inviting atmosphere, come to Aloy Dee Thai in Eustis! You’ll love it
Update: we have been back many time and each time we eat there we have a new favorite meal. Such great food.
