What pissed me off the most was that a specific dessert was mentioned in the regular dessert menu but apparently only available if you chose the pre fixe menu. So the people ordering à la carte aren’t worthy enough for you to serve that dessert?
So my overall experience can be summarized as follows: insert as many cry emojis as you like!
Food is on the high end cost and menu size of casual dining. There were so many good flavors but many fell flat due to other elements. The calamari plate was so tasty but the squid was so well done the squid was tough/chewy and fried served col/room temp. But excellent heat salt textures and so pretty. The fish (Spanish mackerel) was very pretty, delicate and crisp. The Cesar salad contained ABrussels sprouts and a heavy anchovy dry dressing and tasted like its ingredients. Dried fish and Brussel sprouts.
The coconut foam sponge cake lime dessert dish was beautiful and scrumptious. Lime real coconut. the flan was very decadent.
That said, the portion sizes were extremely small for the price, which was disappointing. For what you’re paying, you expect a bit more value.
Unfortunately, the service really impacted our experience. It was very slow, and our waiter did not seem to multitask well. We were left sitting with menus for about 15 minutes before being acknowledged, and later had dessert menus sitting in front of us for another 15 minutes without anyone checking in. We never received a check-in about how our food was, and we saw far more of the food runners and bussers than our actual server.
It was frustrating to watch him visit one table at a time and then disappear for 10 minutes before returning to the floor. We likely would have ordered more drinks and possibly additional food if someone had checked on us.
Overall, the ambiance, food, and cocktails were excellent, but the slow and inattentive service — along with the small portion sizes for the price — made the experience fall short.
We got tequenos, cauliflower, and hamachi. That was the best hamachi I ever had. It was sweet, tart, and salty. The yellow tail melted in my mouth. The Arroz con Chipi-Chipi reminded me of Paella. The Bienmasabe desert was tasty. It was sponge cake, coconut ice cream and chewy jellies for texture. The punch like a lady cocktail was refreshing not too sweet. Something about having it on the rocks took it over.
We were well taken by our servers.
The oyster starter was a lovely surprise with some tang and a bit of spice. We continued with two smaller plates… the shrimp and pork belly was delicious. I had a beer and G enjoyed their rose cava which was pleasantly dry.
We shared the duck entree and are happy to report this took the blue ribbon as it was served in a smaller paella type pan.
The dessert was a testament to the skill of their pastry chef. The fluffy merengue over the bit of cake and wonderfullness… don’t skip it.
The restaurant week 3-course dinner is also a very good deal for the amount of food you eat, and the options they provide. Perfect restaurant for a special occasion or just a night out.
