Unassuming place for fried chicken & other down-home eats served family-style at communal tables.

This place is fantastic. The food is served family style. The bowls of food are served hot and very fresh. The fried chicken is very good and is not greasy. The sliced beef is very tasty and not over done. The Mac and Cheese has plenty of cheese along with a top layer of cheese. The other sides were looking good along with fresh dinner rolls. For desert peach cobbler served family style with refills as needed.

Is cool that it’s family style. You don’t get a choice in what you eat just sweet or unsweet. Great price though. Nothing fancy. Very sweet people. 11.50 for an adult, 4.50 for a child. The cobbler and fried chicken is really good!

Great family meal! Sit down to a table full of fresh food, shared among locals like family. Dirt cheap price! Only bad part is some sides are watery. I’d come here again… No way you can leave hungry!

Allens was a great experience! It’s really family style dining! You sit down at a table and your sitting with strangers getting to know each other was a great experience! They brought out delicious fried chicken and meat loaf! The chicken was really good and fresh. Not the best I ever had but very good! The meatloaf was really good loved the sauce! The sides were good, I can’t believe they brought out 13 sides!! Overall a great experience! They really need to get some sweet tea in there! The regular tea with sugar ain’t cutting it!! I do recommend you go try it out!! Way worth it!

Highly recommended. Very unique experience. You simply do not see these type of family style restaurants anymore. You’re seated at a long table with a group of strangers – soon to be friends. The only dining decision is tea or water; the mashed potatoes and green pea salad are waiting for you on the table. We were served about 10-15 side dishes and 2 main courses (roast beef/gravy and fried chicken). I suspect a lot of the items were straight out of a can (beans, green beans, carrots, cream style corn), but the fried chicken was definitely homemade and the star of the meal. I believe the squash, okra, mashed potatoes, cole slaw and mac&cheese were homemade and they were all really good. Was the food amazing – not really, but it’s rib-stickin’ tasty.. Do I give Allen’s Family Style Meals in Sweetwater, Texas my highest recommendation; absolutely! Take a trip 5 minutes off of I-20 and 70 years into Texas dining history, you won’t be sorry you did.

Only open for lunch. This was my first time in a restaurant like this. There isn’t a menu to speak of and only water or tea to drink. The food just comes at you as soon as you sit down with all sorts of sides. We had fried chicken, green beans, pea salad, mashed potato salad, roast beef, mac n cheese, squash, baked beans, rolls, collard greens and I’m sure I’m missing something. There was so much!
Very cool place… definitely check it out.

Good food served at a table of 8 guests. No menu, but plenty of choices on the family-style table! We were served 13 sides, fried chicken and meat loaf, and our server kept it coming.

What a fantastic gem. My wife and I are from Austin and were absolutely smitten with quality and flavors of the many dishes that were brought to our table. Basically, about 10-12 to chose from… corn, beans, squash, peas, potatoes (sweet, whole and mashed), spinach, cold slaw, bread, beef and fried chicken (wow!) Only open for lunch and just $10 including drink. Think of this place like the Fogo de Chão of homemade southern family cooking. Don’t be deceived by the outside. You’ll seat in a communal table and make lots of new friends.
