BBQ and catfish as good as my dad’s. Outdoor patio is nice; I like it better than the dining room. Pic is of the bbq plate, but we prefer the smaller bbq tray. Catfish sandwich is really good. Sweet potato fries are crinkle cut without all the atypical extra seasoning some places use. A go-to diner when we’re at UNCH and want “real” food. 🙂

Pork, Brunswick stew, coke slaw, hush puppies, collard greens. Oh my. Delicious. Large takeout window in front, but make your way around the side , over the patio and through the unmarked door to sit inside. Basic tables and menus on the wall. Nothing pretentious, just a place to eat good food. Wish the cups weren’t styrofoam. Smelled a little like fried catfish, so may have to try that next time. The service was as good as the food. Bought extra to bring home. Loved it!

I honestly think this may have been the best Eastern NC Style BBQ sandwich I have ever had. In fact it may be the best of all styles I have had, and I have had a ton. This sandwich was HUGE! Perfect level of vinegar sauce/spice. Moisture level was PERFECT! Only wish I had room for some sides because the menu certainly intrigued me.

I had a nice experience overall. I got a bbq sandwich and fries. I haven’t been to Allen and sons In a couple years but I felt the food size portion has went down . My bag of fries wasn’t filled all the way and the sandwich was thinner than I remembered. But the food was good. I would come back. It would be nice if they had a lunch special but I didn’t see one available.

The last restaurant headed west, away from eastern NC, where you can get real eastern NC style barbecue. And it’s a great one. Meat is smoky and flavorful with enough vinegar and pepper to bring the tanginess without too much heat or vinegar. Collards were about perfect and while slaw was finely chopped and not too sweet. Hush puppies were finished perfectly. If I lived within 30 miles this would be my goto place!
9.5 out of 10!

We stopped in today while visiting family in the area on their recommendation, and boy were we glad we did. No fancy decor, but some of the best burgers, BBQ, and fried seafood we’ve ever had. And the service was fast and friendly. This will definitely be our go-to restaurant when we’re in the Pittsboro area from now on.

It definitely had more of a take out atmosphere to it, rather than a dine-in one. The menu didn’t have a whole lot on it for smoked options. The only smoked meat option I saw was pulled pork, so no brisket, chicken or ribs which was kinda disappointing. I got the pulled pork plate which comes with a SINGLE hushpuppy which I’ve never seen just 1 given before and I got baked beans and coleslaw with it. The beans just felt like heated up plain beans, nothing special about them. Coleslaw was pretty good, but a little dry. The BBQ was pretty tasty, very moist and didn’t need any BBQ sauce. I also got the catfish sandwich to try and that was fantastic. It was fried perfectly and very good. I’d definitely recommend the catfish. The service I had wasn’t that great,it took forever to get my drink refilled the entire time I was there and it was not busy today.
BBQ – 7/10
Catfish Sandwich – 8.8/10
Baked beans – 5/10
Coleslaw – 5.5/10
Potato salad – 4/10

The food was great but the service was less than expected and on the edge of being rude ,the older lady basically said take what we serve or someone else will ,they seem like they could care less about growing the business and act like they can’t actually take care of the customers they have attitude ,she said if we want the BBQ chicken or ribs better get there by 4 or it will all be gone ,apparently they only cook a certain amount and when it’s gone they turn ppl away .we ask about desserts and the only thing they had left was banana pudding but by the time we finished our meal they was out of it .great local restaurant ,food is great but im sure they could increase thier business alot if they cooked more food and had better service and friendly waitresses .we drove about a hour and half to get there and probably won’t ever go back although the food was amazing

So the reason I’m giving a two is because I drove 35 minutes to go get food today after trying to call multiple times no answer no answer machine no voicemail. As I’m pulling up there’s no cars so we all know what that means they’re closed I pull up to the front there is no sign that says why they are closed just a sign that says help wanted. An hour and 10 minutes I wasted and I don’t even know why. I think they need more than just help. Consideration to their loyal customers would be nice. Their menu has not been updated for pricing and obviously they can’t manage to post on their website if their hours change and I guess they can’t get an answering machine or voicemail that can let their loyal customers know what the heck is going on. Been going to this place for more than half my life but not real happy today.

Love Allen and Son. Been going here for years. I grew up in Chatham County. It is definitely a local joint. Always great food. Great service. Friendly atmosphere. Amazing people.
