no problem – not the issue) and it was 90% cream cheese. It didn’t taste like spinach or artichoke. Just cream cheese. We ordered a prime rib to split as we had a large brunch. We asked for it to be medium. The “prime rib” came out raw. Not even rare. Raw. My boyfriend eats medium rare steak and he said no, this is just not cooked. We sent it back (server had no issue, she was great) and the same steak (“prime rib”) that we had cut a piece off of returns to us on a new plate, now well done. Now aside from this, this was no cut of prime rib that I had ever seen. I’m fairly sure we got some kind of other cut of steak. So in total we each got about 3 bites of some kind of beef and the rest was entirely fat. The Mac and cheese was mostly just Mac, not too much cheese. It was so dry. The candied yams – honestly after everything else I tasted I don’t know if they were actually good or everything else was just that bad. Again, nothing on the wait staff that I encountered. I had heard such good things about this place and left highly disappointed and hungry.
You must get the honey jalapeno cornbread when you order your drinks. We also ordered calamari with our drinks. Once she brought them to us, we added fried scallop dinner w/collards and red beans and rice, cajun seafood pasta, and blackened salmon (missing toast was in my hand ☺️) with fries and green beans to our order.
Everything was delicious. Go check them out; you won’t be disappointed.

The restaurant scene in Elizabeth City has been booming as of late. Lots of new dishes, location changes, and upcoming restaurants.
With that, I was honored when Chef John invited us to his private tasting at Allecious Restaurant . With his many years as a Chef in a private kitchen as well as in our military, I knew I was in for a treat!
We walked into a dimly lit restaurant and we were greeted by Chef John. Immediately nothing but good vibes from John. Friendly, family oriented and you can tell he takes great pride in what he is doing.
My wife and I walked around both sections of the restaurant to decide where we were sitting. Very spacious and plenty of table and booth seating. Those with little ones will be pleased to find a booster seat and high chair if needed.
The evening was a focus on tastings so the menu was limited. I made sure to sample as much as I could to get a feel for the style of the cuisine.
Let’s start with their Frog Legs. This is something the wife nor I have ever tried but after seeing the perfectly fried golden brown legs paired with the amazing aroma of food in the room…it was hard to turn them down. The old saying that they taste like chicken is somewhat true. Just imagine the juiciest chicken leg you have ever had paired with just the right amount of seasoning. My wife and I both had seconds on this.
Next on my many plates was their Honey Jalapeño cornbread. Cornbread is one of those things that it’s either good or it’s not but Chef John surpassed my mark on this. The Cornbread was nice and moist, the jalapenos gave a nice kick which was complimented well with the honey. 11/10 .
If you are a seafood person like myself, these next few dishes are a must.
Scallops, these were served both fried and broiled. For me, scallops are always an easy go to but the seasonings on these were top notch. .
Oysters Rockefeller, this was another first for me but again, the food smelled so good that I had to dig in and I am glad I did. I can’t compare these to others since it was a first for me but I can tell you that I am HOOKED. I feel like I have been missing out on life and Chef John has shown me the way.
Crab Cakes, now this is something I am well versed in. As someone who used to work in the OBX and has tried more than a fair share from various restaurants here and in Maryland….Allecious is definitely sitting on top in EC and at least top 5 overall. There were served alone but I hope to see maybe a sandwhich with these .
Along with the seafood, there was also some pasta on the tasting menu for the evening. I didn’t catch the name but it was a creamy white mushroom sauce. My wife gave it her seal of approval. (I think she even got seconds lol).
For dessert there was a choice of three cakes. Blueberry cheesecake poundcake, Strawberry cheesecake poundcake and Sweet potato pound cake. While they were all good, the Sweet potato poundcake really stole the show. Tasted much like a spice cake with the after taste of the sweet potato, it was served with a caramel sauce that tasted home made. My wife and I fought over that last bite as we shared it .
There were some other items on the tasting menu but I really wanted to highlight these.
The daily specials, the favorites, the desserts: all delicious. The collards, the red beans, the seafood are all on the must list.
I will definitely be back.
Previous location review: Most of the food was pretty good but all the vegetables taste/appear to be straight from a can. The corn bread, broiled shrimp dinner and soft shell crab (special) were all very good. Excellent service, cafeteria style atmosphere though, some work is needed on that.
