We are always looking for local cafes for breakfast when we travel. Alice’s worked out nicely for the time of day and location. Parking was a bit limited, but they do have a dirt lot behind the restaurant for overflow. We got there around 10 and the place was full, but they had a table where they could seat us right away.
My wife ordered the French toast combo with scrambled eggs and bacon, and I ordered my usual 2 eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns and wheat toast. The food was just like our home cafe in Peoria AZ. It’s hard to mess up typical breakfast fare and they didn’t disappoint. Their hash browns were different in that they had green pepper and onion cooked into them, which was a refreshing change. Service was great, and our coffee was never empty. Like other reviewers, we did find the coffee to be a bit on the weak side, but it wouldn’t keep us from coming back if the opportunity arose.
One note for the manager though, one of the restrooms had no visible light switch and the light wasn’t on. It was kind of interesting using the restroom by phone flashlight… Someone was camped in the other restroom, so hopefully it had a light. I think it was clean? Hard to say
Border Turkey & Swiss with Ortega chilies. They use real turkey! Not that processed lunch meat bs. My normally picky 10yo daughter got a cheese omelet with their house potatoes & she loved it too. I stole one of her potatoes & it was really good. The portion sizes are huge, & the staff were very friendly. Even though the place was packed, we still got our food in a reasonable amount of time. I would definitely eat here over places like IHOP or Dennys.
What I usually get
Med rare Steak and egg whites with cottage cheese sliced tomatoes and french toast.
Comes with two regular toast sized pieces of French toast, nice and thin soaked and cooked thoroughly. I usually don’t like French toast at all, but something about there’s is actually really good, I can’t resist the sweet treat. I like to put sugar on it instead of syrup for that special sugar donut french toast hybrid kind of texture and taste.
The steak Oh boy, an inch thick beautiful medium rare. I cut the fat off and give it to my s/o and still get so much steak. I add S/P too it and a little A1 and yum protein protein protein! Some times one part of the steak is a little more rare than medium.
Egg whites are fine, I will say I might ask for it without so much cooking oil, as I don’t like the taste on my eggs.
My s/o gets the same but with potatoes and different eggs. The country potatoes are very well seasoned with fresh peppers and onion in it. Big pieces of potatoes and a big portion of them.
Two steak and egg meals after taxes and before tip $40
Great for a big steak!
Service is fast and the host with the short hair is super attentive and very friendly and welcoming. Server is great too, not chatty and straight to business, the way I like it. Gotta get the names next time.
