So I stopped in around dinnertime.
They have a pretty varied menu, good prices. Today they offered 3 specials. One of which is a Fried Rib Dinner. I’ve never heard of ribs cooked this way. The waitress told me they’re popular and taste good.
So what the heck, I ordered Fried Ribs and am glad I did. Very flavorful and super tender.
I’m in town for a week and I’ll stop back.
We ordered at almost 2 o’clock, it was not busy at all. We were told it would be 15 minutes for the chicken, because it is cooked fresh. We were more than happy to wait for fresh food. The wait was almost 30 minutes, the chicken was warm, not hot. Very bland, I’ve had hospital food that had more flavor. The sides had no flavor, not even salt. The dinner rolls were not cooked there, but they were the best tasting thing we were served. When our food did arrive, the young girl that took our order, began using an electric sweeper to thoroughly vacuum.
I have included photos of the menu, our check charges, and our receipt of the charges we paid. The menu said $9.05 each for a dark meat chicken dinner, we were charged $10.05 each. There was also a mystery $1.95 charge. I asked if the $1.95 was for my water, no the lady said, no charge for water. She called the young lady, that took our order, over to ask. She said, I ordered french fries for an appetizer, which was true, but was changed to onion rings that I was charged for. I was then told if you order french fries as a side, it cost $1.95 extra. She then explained, she scratched out the french fry order, but forgot to remove the charge. Ok, I know we all make mistakes. Then the question of being charged $10.05 for the dark meat chicken dinner. The lady goes on to explain the printer that printed the menus are “crummy”, and they have been waiting for replacements “forever“, that price was an error. Since this was our first visit, I only had the menu to go by, and the young lady that took our order did not mention this fact to me. The lady took the charge down to the menu price of $9.05 each chicken dinner, and removed the mystery $1.95. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS
The price was about the same as Cracker Barrel, the taste was not like Cracker Barrel at all. The place is small, the bathrooms were clean. The food portions were skimpy (there was more meat on the tiny drumstick, than on the tiny thigh), the service was almost nonexistent, the free refills did not show up, my husband drank my water with the appetizer, friendly when they took the order and payment.
I was hoping to support a local business, but this was just subpar at best, food, atmosphere and service just blah.
Don’t go there because of the song!
The staff are great and each has her unique personality – usually friendly smiling and welcoming. I prefer the breakfast menu of down home southern style cooking. Moderately priced and a good Destination for either an individual or family.
