We’ve wanted to try them out, and I don’t know why it took so long!!
We went for brunch on Saturday at 11:15a – and it wasn’t crowded. They are part of the Inn at the Creek and the grounds and ambiance is lovely! We chose to sit on the deck and had a beautiful view of the creek.
Service was excellent – and they did not rush you at all. The menu is limited for both brunch and dinner, but I think there is something everyone would like.
We started with the freshly made biscuits – which came with house made jam and butter. Today’s was peach and OMG..it was SO good!! I had to stop myself at one, although my husband had two! It’s hard to get a biscuit light and tender, and these were both. I’m drooling again thinking about them!!
I had the spring onion omelette, and he had the crispy chicken and waffles.
The omelette was french style, not puffy, and light colored, but cooked nicely (I’m not a fan of goopy type eggs!). The potatoes were also more like a french style – not browned, but seasoned well and cooked til fork tender. It came with a fresh mix of salad greens and lemon/olive oil to pour on top. Very tasty and a nice light meal because I needed to make it to dessert!
The chicken and waffles were done well also. He loved that they deboned the thighs, and they were crispy and juicy. The waffles were quite good also. I’m not sure how he ate the whole thing, but he did!!
We decided to skip dessert because we were pretty full! But our lovely waitress Janai gave us a complimentary piece of their sponge cake with lemon cream filling to go. WOW..it was amazing..and they almost had me at the blueberry bread pudding..but we were full! Next time..definitely dessert! I included some pics of the lovely scenary also. The Inn also looked like a wonderful place for a weekend getaway!
Thanksgiving at Alexander’s has been a family tradition for several years now. We’ve taken family there who visit from out of town and have always enjoyed our meals and service. This year was just a total bust for several reasons.
1 – For Thanksgiving, you were expected to pre-pay for your meals. Part of that pre-payment was you were to list your tip – for services not rendered – yet. We’ve eaten at places around the world through the years – but we have never been asked to pre-pay for ANYTHING before we walked in he door. We actually got a phone call as we were driving to the restaurant, asking if we were still coming and if we were, they wanted payment – over the phone, driving down 35 to Salado.
2 – The meal. One thing on us – we didn’t look closely at the menu. All years past it was 2-3 entrees, with all the typical Thanksgiving fixings….Turkey or Beef, dressing, mashed potatoes, a vegetable soup, salad, pumpkin or pecan pie. This year, not so much typical at all:
Amuse-bouche – a delicate welcome to start your holiday experience
Pumpkin Soup – velvety with cardamom, ginger, and a cloud of nutmeg cream
Autumn Salad – mixed greens, dried cranberries, candied pumpkin seeds, apples, and white balsamic–honey dressing
Entrée Options:
Slow-Roasted Turkey Breast with pumpkin spice French toast, green beans almandine, and Luxardo cherry bordelaise
Shaved Prime Rib Roast with Yukon gold potato mille feuille and wild mushroom ragù
Dessert – a decadent autumn-inspired finale to your holiday lunch
All inspired as we were told by their new French Chef – so no mashed potatoes, no stuffing, no cranberries, no pumpkin pie.
Oh – we did get 1 basket of bread for 5 of us, we asked for more and were told only 1 basket per table – they didn’t have enough bread to accommodate anything further than 1 per table.
Three out of 5 at our table got prime rib, and as a “beef” family, we were shocked with what was put before us. Shaved, tepid, prime rib. It looked like a plate of road kill…….couldn’t tell it was rib eye. The turkey was fine, but again, not sure how they try to maintain food temps, but their scale was off that day, it was not HOT at all.
3 -Communication – I’ve held off in doing a review in hopes that we could have a live conversation vs a written review, but management has failed to do just that after several promises. We loved our server – no issue there but we shared with her the how far from fine our holiday meal was. Shortly afterwards, Amie Castillo, the Dir of Operations at the restaurant visited the table, listened to why this was not the most fun day for us and apologized, offered us a free round of drinks (which we politely declined) gave us her business card, she told us that she would be in contact with us on Dec 1, to get our feedback and to possibly compensate us with a refund or gift cards for our experience. December 1 came and went with no contact from Amie. On December 3rd I sent her an email – no response. On December 8th I reached out to the restaurant via chat on Facebook Messenger. Within minutes I received a response from Emily – Marketing Director, asking for my contact info and stating that she and Amie had discussed this over the weekend. She then stated “with confidence” Amie would be reaching out within the next few days. Well, here we are, December 14 – 11 days later – still nothing.
Sorry Alexander’s, you’ve lost a customer that has, in the past, recommended your establish with high regard. It’s bad enough for a holiday meal to be ruined, but the broken promises, zero ability to follow-up and apparent disregard for customers who tried to share their experience with management in hopes of others not having to do the same just pushes it over the top.
We were recommended by the locals to come here for a cocktail but then go elsewhere for dinner, since we weren’t wanting to spend a lot for food. We decided to get the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer, and they were so phenomenal, we just kept ordering different items!
We ended up getting the Alexander salad, which was wonderful, the crab cakes, which were also amazing, and the chicken, which was delightful, but the broccolini left something to be desired.
Our only slight issue was our server was brand new, and wasn’t quite as knowledgeable about wine profiles and menu items, but she was lovely otherwise.
Sit on the deck, it’s gorgeous!
We ended up sitting outside on the beautiful porch with an amazing view. The service was outstanding—so kind, cheerful, and attentive. I didn’t catch names for sure, but I believe one server was Austin (dirty blonde hair in a ponytail with tattoos) and the other may have been Patrick (short dark hair and a short beard). They worked incredibly well together and made the experience even better.
Amazing teamwork, welcoming atmosphere, and wonderful service. We’ll definitely be back.
Mark’s professionalism and friendly personality elevated the entire experience. He clearly knows the menu inside and out and made us feel valued without ever being overbearing. The craft cocktails were exceptional, the food was delicious, and the service thanks to Mark was truly top-tier.
Will definitely be coming back.
