Dining with Dirk: Sunday Edition
After my morning trek, hunger set in, and I finally decided to stop at Alexander’s Bistro—a place I’ve passed countless times but never stepped inside. Turns out, I’d been missing out.
Nicole greeted me the moment I walked in, and her warm, welcoming presence immediately set the tone for the experience. I ordered a self-serve black coffee and the Slow Start Scramble. The sandwich was cooked fresh, which meant waiting an extra couple of minutes—but that was quickly forgotten once it arrived.
The cheesy eggs were creamy and perfectly cooked, while the toppings added perfect mix of texture and flavor. Nicole, along with another young lady whose name I didn’t catch, truly set the standard for hospitality. Friendly, attentive, and genuine—exactly how dining out should feel.

I only had iced coffee, with the eggs, bacon, and home fries, but every single item was exquisite. Supremely well-executed simple dish. Nothing is cheap in the historic district, but this was worth every penny.

The food was okay the portions however was smaller but that in its self wasn’t an issue. I did however find my food to be unappetizing and when I asked if there was anything that could be done, the owners mother first claimed to be the owner and said she couldn’t compensate or replace my meal in any way. After seeing the interaction the actual owner Aaron came to offer assistance with the matter and at least offered me some form of compensation but overall left me extremely unhappy with the service and the attitude I received was truly egregious and I would not recommend this place. But the young girls who took my order were super sweet. Shout out them!

I really don’t know what went wrong or how we’re the only people in the reviews who have had this experience but wow that was rough. We ordered 4 side items and only were given 3, had to wait for them to make more after asking. 3 out of 4 of our drink orders needed reminding when they didn’t show up in a timely manner with one of them needing 2 reminders. Additionally staff acted very confused and inconvenienced at every step of the way and had to repeatedly ask us what exactly we were waiting on. “Grits bowl” ordered to-go was haphazardly thrown into a paper to-go box with no bowl which was hilarious. Really just a series of events that had all of us looking at each other like “what???”. Food was nowhere near good enough to justify steep prices. Maybe this was a one-time thing but it was pretty disappointing given the glowing reviews.

I honestly can’t say enough about this place. The breakfast was insane. Absolutely phenomenal. Service was friendly and efficient with timely food delivery. Also independent artist with very cool prints and canvases to enjoy looking through while they’re making your food, and we decided to purchase one on the way out the door. We came here right after we got married at the courthouse in December 2024, it was absolutely perfect for the vibe and I can’t wait to go back.

Really dropping this review for one reason only….well maybe two; French Fries!!! It was a side on the delicious chicken salad sandwich but they are the best fries 6/7 of the people at our table have ever eaten. Skin on, seasoned and cooked just right. Awesome. The breakfast burrito was also perfect. Finally, the owners are apparently grunge fans as Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam floating thru the place made me feel right at home. A great place to drop in after a long walk thru the beautiful Forsyth Park.

To start off my review, I will say the ladies at the front were nice and generous! However, when it came to trying to have a $25 meal that had one or two bites taken out of it compensated or even refunded we had an ordeal. The older woman who claimed to be both the only manager and the owner of the bistro removed the meal from the table but gave no real solution to our problem. She said that they couldn’t give us a refund for anything. I felt that she wasn’t trying to help us find a way to make the situation better. In the end they gave us one muffin and a refill on an already refillable drink. I don’t think I will be returning to this place due to what took place today. The food I will say is alright but slightly on the pricey side for the portions they provide. (And the owner also stated he deletes the bad reviews which I found to be also displeasing.)

If you are a person of color, especially black, do not come here. Me and my friends came here and one of my friends didn’t like her food and the so called “only manager, actually i’m the owner “ was very unpleasant. She didn’t even help, her only suggestion was to take the pork out of the breakfast bowl. So her and the kitchen were just going to play in the food. She was very unhelpful and didn’t even offer anything on a $25 tab. Didn’t want remake it or even give my friend something else. After that , the cook which is the owner came over and genuinely he was no help either. He tried to make me and my friends feel bad honestly. Saying that he owns this restaurant with his parents and then oddly mentions that they are declining. Says that he goes in and removes all the negative reviews. Also mention that earlier that day, three people want a refund and he did not give it to them, which is a horrible way to run your business. I feel like if people are unpleasant with the service or the food you should at least offer them a refund or some type of compensation. The only thing that was given was a to-go cup on a refillable drink and a pastry. Honestly, after this interaction me and my other friends cannot finish eating our food because we were so displeased and discussed it with the behavior that we encountered. I won’t downplay the food but for the price you pay you do not get enough for your money. The only pleasant thing about this experience was the cashiers up at the front, which were very nice and helpful with the situation. Again, if you are a person of color, especially black try to stay away from this place.

Alexander’s Bistro in Savannah turned out to be a decent stop during our trip. The atmosphere was quite nice, striking a good balance between being lively yet not overly busy. It had a small and cozy feel to it, which made for a comfortable setting.
The service at Alexander’s Bistro was great. We were assisted by a friendly gentleman who was attentive to our needs throughout the meal. It’s always a plus when the staff contributes positively to the dining experience.
Food-wise, the experience was good. My wife had the vegan meatball sub, which she enjoyed, and I went for the Pork Brisket Sandwich. Both dishes were served promptly, and the quality was solid. While the food was enjoyable, it didn’t particularly stand out as the highlight of our trip.
In conclusion, if you find yourself in Savannah and looking for a place with a pleasant atmosphere and good service, Alexander’s Bistro is a decent choice. It offers a comfortable dining experience, especially if you’re in the mood for a quick and tasty meal.

The most delightful hidden gem in the area. My friends and I had no idea it existed but stumbled upon it this morning and had an incredible meal. I think their espresso was the best I’ve had in Savannah.
Not a place to get an ordinary bagel and cream cheese, but if you’re in the mood for a slow cooked egg scramble with bacon, chives and a quick-pickled shallot- this is the place for you!
Yum yum yum!
