We were hungry after a 4 hour drive so excuse the fact that we devoured the shrimp before remembering to take a picture. Let me just say, we strolled in b/c the menu looked fantastic and it was right beside our hotel. We were only in for the night for some quick business the following Saturday, and then a 4 hour drive back home near Asheville. We were greeted and told that it may be later to get a table as it was a busy Friday night and we had no reservation, but as luck would have it, a table for 2 was open immediately and we were seated. Everyone was so nice and the service was impeccable. We started with cocktails and the bbq shrimp for 2 app with baguette and butter. I made shrimp toast and we scarfed it down. Our salads came out next and everything was bright and fresh and perfectly dressed. My wife had the filet with maitre’d butter and wine paring with a Cab and I had the scallops paired with a Rioja. I had a bite of the filet and it was perfectly prepared and seasoned with just a hint of Worcestershire. The scallops were a perfect medium rare as well and also perfectly seasoned with a soft crust on the outside. We decided to treat ourselves to dessert with the caramel apple bread pudding with fresh berries & whipped cream. My wife had coffee and I had a glass of Tawny Porto to complete a perfect evening. At some point a local (possibly affiliated with the restaurant?) came over and welcomed us as he overheard us at the door hoping to get a table on such short notice. My wife mentioned that Alexander’s reminds us of Pascal’s back in our hometown in SC, it’s the favorite of the locals “in the know”. This was our first trip to Roanoke but I’d say it will definitely not be our last and we will be reserving a table here each time in the future.

We had a great experience at Alexander’s in Roanoke. I ordered the lamb porterhouse and my wife had the shrimp with risotto—both dishes were excellent and cooked very well. The cheese soufflé appetizer was also a standout and a great way to start the meal.
What really set the night apart, though, was the service. Attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. You can tell they take hospitality seriously here.
Overall, a very strong dining experience and a place we’d happily return to, especially for a nice night out.

Alexander’s is always a solid choice for dinner, and our recent romantic date night was no exception. The food and wine list were fantastic, offering great variety and quality. Having visited five times now, it’s clear why we keep coming back. The restaurant has minimal staff turnover, which speaks volumes about its quality, and our server had been there for 26 years! We dined during restaurant week but chose to stick to the regular menu, and the prices were in line with the restaurant’s caliber. We’ll definitely return for another memorable dining experience.

Alexander’s is one of the classiest restaurants in Roanoke. Everything from start to finish is always amazing! The service is always on point and the food is some of the best in the area! We highly suggest the deconstructed California roll for an appetizer. The pecan crusted chicken and lamb steak are also phenomenal! We’ve never had anything here that wasn’t delicious! The cocktails are also always good!

Alexander’s is a truly special establishment, especially for Roanoke natives and long time residents. While the food is 10/10 and the old world ambiance makes you want to stay all night, anyone who has dined here knows that the staff is what sets Alexander’s apart from every other restaurant in the Roanoke Valley. The front of house staff have all been there for many years and treat you like family. They are genuinely glad to see you when you walk in the door. There are other great restaurants in the area for sure, but Alexander’s is in a league of their own when it comes to the warmth, polish, and professionalism of the staff. They are the gold standard and hopefully they know it. The food is outstanding and always such a treat. There is no bar and the room is carpeted, so the loud din of chatter and commotion you get at many of the newer, trendy restaurants is not present. No TVs on the walls either. Perfect for conversation with good company and just an escape from the rest of the world. My wife and I will always have a special place in our hearts for Alexander’s and look forward to many more date nights, birthdays, anniversaries, and other fun occasions at our favorite place in town. Thank you Alexander’s, you are one of a kind.

We had an amazing meal at Alexander’s last night! It was our first time there, but the staff made it feel like we were family. Rachel, our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations.
We ordered the artesian cheese tray as an appetizer. It had many different local items and all were very delicious. For an entree we ordered the pecan crusted chicken and the filet. The pecan crusted chicken was cooked to perfection, still moist and juicy. The filet was in fact the most tender filet we have ever had.
I truly appreciate the incorporation of local ingredients into each dish. When we visit the Roanoke area again we will definitely be back!

We didn’t plan on going this evening but so glad we did go in. We were a bit hesitant as we think of this place as upscale and we were more casually dressed. No matter. We were seated quickly! The ambiance is more of a European timing. More relaxed and allowing you to converse and take your time deciding.
We both had the crab asparagus soup and loved it. Mine was shy on crab and he said his was plenty. The lamb porterhouse was a bit smaller than he expected but it is from a lamb I reminded him. The flavor was amazing. I had the shrimp étouffée and it was good. Nothing really stood out and not something I would order again.
The drinks were strong and the wine was a solid pour and the pairing recommendations on point.
It is starting to look a bit tired. Just little things. Some art is over the top (and that mirror! Omg how incredible) and other pieces make me wonder what was the thought.
Service was great as expected. We will come back more often.

The food is excellent at Alexander’s, the drinks are phenomenal, but if there is anything better, it is the service. The team is beyond exceptional. They ride the line between attentive and almost invisible to perfection. They are kind, knowledgeable and perfectly in sync.
All that being said, the food is phenomenal. The pork chop is crazy good, with a perfect crust. Same with the duck – it’s with 5 spice and it’s a very specific flavor. We found it fantastic, but we also all love 5 spice.
Overall, Alexander’s def lives up to the hype. Premium is the vibe and it delivers.

Every time we go with friends or just ourselves we always enjoy everything about our visit. One of our favorite places to eat if not our favorite place. If you have never experienced Alexander’s do yourself a favor and make a reservation and sit back and enjoy.
