I come to RI / New England from NYC at least once a year and Aleppo Sweets has been our pit stop for several years now.

The food is fresh, delicious without being overly seasoned or drenched in sauce. The dessert is also fresh, made on premise and filled with nuts (a lot of places skimp on ingredients, Aleppo Sweets is very generous, I always get extra for the road and gifting).

The service is friendly and prompt — like when you have questions about the menu, ask for an extra plate, when they serve your food, how they maintain the premise including the dining area and the restroom. While you do order at the counter and have the food delivered to your table and you’re expected to clear your own table, I’m sure it is helping them keep costs down. They haven’t raised prices for several years unlike most establishments since COVID.

It’s a charming spot. I can’t recommend it enough!

I will start by saying that the food was absolutely delicious and stunningly beautiful – a true feast for all the senses. The reason for the three stars was the confusing service model and unhelpful staff. I didn’t realize it was a counter service restaurant and apparently you are supposed to get a table before you order?? I still don’t know! When I asked for clarification/direction from the staff, they seemed annoyed and the man who took my order brusquely escorted me to a table in their outdoor alley space where it was shady and cold. The chicken kabob and cheese fatayer were outstanding. I might go back to try some other menu items but would just get take-out.

Really cozy spot with a nice vibe, loved the atmosphere and the decor. The staff was super welcoming and helpful, which we appreciated. The bathroom was very clean and smelled good. We tried the cheese fatayar, chicken shawarma, chicken kabab, Hummus, chocolate baklava, kunafa, and Arabic coffee.

The cheese fatayar was a standout, seriously tasted like something straight from the Middle East! Reminded me of home! Hummus and bread were good portion! The chocolate baklava and kunafa were also delicious and hit the spot.

The chicken shawarma had good flavor but was a bit too drenched in sauce, so the texture of the chicken kind of disappeared. The chicken kabab was decent, but for $15, the portion felt pretty small, plus no rice included, and some veggies

The Arabic coffee was alright. It was a bit too dark and didn’t have the flavor we were hoping for.

One thing that threw us off was the self-service setup. We were confused about how to order, where to get silverware, napkins, water, etc., and ended up having to get up several times during the meal. There’s a small cart by the kitchen door where you return dirty dishes, get water, and so on, but it’s tucked into a tight corner and wasn’t explained up front.

That said, we still really liked a lot about this place and plan to come back to try more of the menu now that we understand how things operate. Maybe we’ll come at a less busy time next visit.

Beautiful, cozy place. The service is great and the food amazing, so flavorful and fresh; the baklava is a must as well as their teas. Definitely a must visit when in Providence!

Counter service ordering makes for an easy transaction. However, I feel as though we visted on too busy of a night- they began to run out of washed dishes, and silverware…sort of off putting in that regard….why eat a $15+ dish off paper plates, no forks?

Don’t be fooled by the name and the whole first page of the menu being dessert: it’s not just sweets! This place has absolutely delicious Syrian food, a sneakily cool fountain, and fantastic service. They even had something that looked really cool in the fridge behind the counter but I got a little too shy on my first visit and didn’t ask what it was. Maybe I’ll build up the courage next time? To be continued on that. My really cool wife and I shared some mezze and some kebabs and it was so scrumptious there wasn’t a morsel left. Anyway we also got some baklava to go and it was superb. Might even get some more later in the weekend to bring to some friends down south….

– Sunday at 11:00pm / 14 people in the restaurant – $30 tab

Staff – Staff is helpful and quick to serve. The Syrian roots are strong and proud here. They k ow their food.

Drinks – I asked for a recommendation to combat the hot day from the son working the front and he suggested a hibiscus cold tea. It was spot on what I needed and paired the wrap I got perfectly.

Food – I requested a custom made item not found on the menu. I requested a chicken shawarma and falafel wrap mixed into one. They accommodated me without hesitation and it was the best wrap I have had. This place does it right!

As I was leaving I asked for a mix of 4 baklava items of their choice for the road. The staff were excited to do so.

Atmosphere – The place is comfortable, open, and very welcoming. It’s clean and well cared for.

Had a great dinner with my wife here. Really really delicious food. The pepper and lamb fatayer was my favorite. We also had the zaatar fatayer, labneh, and kefta
kabob, which were all also fantastic. Nice atmosphere too, and easy counter service (order and pay at counter and they bring you your food). And tea!
