Alees Cafe’, We’re not your average copy-paste eatery. Fresh, Flavorful Dishes Made With Passion. ALEES CAFE’ is the fictitious name for ALEEBANESE FOOD, LLC. The company was established in PA in 2016 by Alee. to facilitate the cultural exchange of Food, Goods, Art, and Music. Alee, a mechanical engineer turned Middle Eastern rug and art importer turned local Lebanese food purveyor, likes to describe his journey from Beirut, Lebanon, to Lewisburg as a destiny 30 years in the making. He first came to The United States in the 1980s for graduate school but was summoned home when his father fell ill. It wasn’t until 2017 that another important person — his first grandson — lured him back. -Bucknell University Magazine. See you Alees Cafe Team

The food was incredibly bland — so bland that there was almost no flavor at all. We ordered the lentil soup with za’atar, and it tasted like plain boiled lentils with barely any seasoning. I would rate it 2/10. We also tried the chicken shawarma platter, and the chicken had almost no flavor whatsoever — not even the natural taste of the meat came through. That dish was around 3/10.
It appears to be a small, family-owned restaurant, and we really wanted to like it, especially given its reputation. However, the food fell far below expectations. After just a few bites, we couldn’t continue and ended up leaving most of the meal untouched.
Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, especially considering the high rating. We were hoping for authentic, flavorful Lebanese cuisine, but unfortunately, that wasn’t what we received.
1. Some more Lebanese ambiance would be wonderful. The decor, lighting, and music from that region could add another level to the experience.
2. Different tables eventually (I know times are tough). As an average- or barely-above-average-height guy, I couldn’t sit very comfortably at the table without hitting my knees or being just a little too far back from the table. It really wasn’t that bad though and everything was made so quickly that it didn’t matter much. For the owners: there are lots of vintage and antique tables around here for cheap prices. Even if they don’t match, people would probably like that authentic feel more than uniform modern stuff. Maybe even traditional regional seating at low tables with lots of cushions? Probably a lot to ask, but I can dream!
3. The Turkish delight in the grocery store is likely not the Turkish delight that most Americans are expecting. Buyers: Look at the box and make sure you want to try something different because it is only slightly similar to what you’re used to. Owners: Consider getting the typical (at least in the US and UK) pink cubes with powdered sugar please?
I spent more time on the constructive feedback than the positives despite loving the place and being an instant loyal customer after my first visit. I look forward to many more meals here. I liked it so much that I instantly bought a gift card for a like-minded loved one.
Come here multiple times and try everything you can. We don’t get many cultural gems like this in this region. Please support this local business!
