Well-Known Mexican Chef Brings Back Alebrije Mexican Grill …
Reviews
The food? Just as bad. It was bland, and tasted like it had been sitting out way too long. Definitely not fresh, and certainly not worth the price.
If you’re expecting good food and good service, you won’t find either here. Alebrije was a major letdown. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. !SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSE WHERE!
Stars!
I appreciated the carne asada being a thick juicy tender steak well worth it.
We initially came to try the Birria tacos that we were told was amazing and they truly were .
Now let’s go to the beginning…we waited 10 minutes at the door, standing before anyone came to seat us. I thought maybe it was the owner or manager , nope it was the Musician! He stopped playing to help us.
Now that we’re seated it took just as long, well even longer to know who our server was and to order and receive water. Very SLOW!
Then she decided to clean the table and do 10 other things before bringing 2 waters and no chips. We had to flag a guy who was delivering food down to ask for chips and salsa.
Our food ended up sitting in the order pickup window that we could clearly see. My simple dinner order came out wrong, they took back the whole plate and I had to ask if i could just have my tacos back on a smaller plate and of course by the time that happened they were luke warm. My mother’s chicken empanadas weren’t cooked all the way through (were very light in color) and flavorless. The street corn which I mentioned in the beginning was COLD so we brought attention to it. Our server said “Really? Do you mind?” As she held her pinky up gesturing to touch the corn. Our minds were BLOWN!!! My mother of course said NO dont touch but just at this point to put them in the microwave real QUICK.
Was it quick, NOPE but the bell rang twice and the plate waited to be picked up. The plate helped it hold a little heat but at this point they were dried out. We tried to eat them but most of our meals were left picked through. Only empty plate was my sons.
Oh by the way, Im still waiting for my sides to come out. The black beans came first and the fries came WAY LATER. The server said oh they’re coming, in between waiting and her asking how everything was . She finally comes with my fries saying “Finally after 8x of them being taken.”
All I could think since walking in the door is ‘TIME MANAGEMENT’!!!
So the best thing about our very disappointing dinner after the Parade of Lights was the Musician and the helper (who was trying to hold it all together) Josue I believe he said was his name. My son was the only one at the Mexican restaurant eating his good chicken tenders and fries dinner, while us adults are saying NEVER AGAIN!!! GUESS HOW LONG IT TOOK TO GET THE CHECK…which didnt include the military discount we mentioned . The table right behind us even got up to get their own napkins and to go boxes.
I go stand next to the register and wait. I told Josue the issue with the bill and he asked if I wouldnt mind waiting for the manager and asked what table was I at. I pointed and then pointed to the server who had our table.
DO YALL KNOW SHE WAS THE MANAGER!!! THE MANAGER WITHOUT TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS AND WANTING TO TOUCH PEOPLES FOOD AS IF SHE WAS IN DISBELIEF THAT IT WASNT REALLY SITTING UP THERE AND HAD GOTTEN COLD FROM HER NOT MOVING FASTER!….THE MANAGER ‘PAO’ was the name on the check!
THEY KEEP THIS UP, I DONT SEE THEM MAKING IT ANOTHER YEAR OR WE’LL SEE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT SIGNS, BC WHAT?!?!?!
I will continue going to El Zocalo on Sanford Ave downtown.
FOOD: 5/5
Chicken Fajita: There’s liberal amount of tender and moist pieces of chicken with the right ratios of bell peppers and onions in a sauce sizzling on a hot cast iron plate. The sauce is perfect and not salty. The chicken remains moist and tender even after the plate cools off. The pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and black beans were the sides accompanying this dish. I opted for extra black beans as a substitute for rice. All the sides were great. The guacamole and pico de gallo tasted fresh. The black beans were cooked just right (not too soft and not too firm) and not salty.
Beef Fajita: similar to the chicken fajita, there’s liberal amount of tender pieces of beef with the right ratios of bell peppers and onions in a sauce sizzling on a hot cast iron plate. The sauce is perfect and not salty. Pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and black beans, and rice were the sides accompanying this dish. The rice was cooked and seasoned just right and very tasty.
Camarones a la diabla: 6 large prawns cooked in a hot pepper sauce served with rice. We opted for refried beans with this dish. The prawns were cooked just right (not chewy) and the sauce was smoky and very flavorful and had just a medium level of pepper heat. This dish was also great tasting.
Tortillas: all 3 dishes we ordered came with hot tortillas rolled up in paper and foil to keep them warm and moist. We had both corn and flour tortillas and they were great. Last year we watched a member of the restaurant making fresh tortillas at a corner of the restaurant. We didn’t see the tortilla production this time but the tortilla’s texture and taste is great this time too.
Chips and salsa:
The chips were very good. The salsa was not spicy, but tasted fresh. The spicy salsa roja we ordered had a peppery and smoky flavor, tasted great with the chips
Coffee Flan:
The coffee Flan texture was perfectly smooth and silky. The coffee flavor ratio was perfect and the sweetness was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet like flans of other places.
SERVICE: 5/5
Fast, friendly, and very helpful service from the waitress.
AMBIANCE: 5/5
This restaurant is located in a shopping plaza, but its interior layout is nice, clean, spacious and seating is very comfortable.
We’re looking forward to returning next time we’re in the area.
Food was bland. Definitely not authentic, and definitely not worth the high prices.
Margaritas were not good. My spicy jalapeño Margarita had no jalapeños in it and garnished with a lemon?
My sister’s plate was completely missing her beans. The waiter didn’t offer her any, and just said sorry & she’ll let the kitchen know. So still no beans, and no discount.
Another family arrived at the restaurant and the waiter/ host sits them right next to us mind you i said the restaurant was completely empty.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place. We came because of the good reviews and we were passing through from Kissimmee, so i definitely wouldn’t return and the positive reviews must be from people who never had authentic Mexican food before.
The service was excellent, with our server making sure our order was exactly the way we wanted it. The food came out quick and hot.
My mom noted her tacos lacked a little flavor but overall enjoyed her meal (especially the churros).
I talk about this place to anybody who will listen and always recommend the steak chilaquiles!
