Dined at Aldo’s Italian in Middlebury tonight. Seated by the bar at a high-top—fine, but no bread or dipping oil unless you beg for it. Bartender poured me a ‘hard cider’ that tasted like dark beer; wife’s martini was basically olive brine. Had to nudge for grated cheese and hot pepper flakes in my pasta fazool—they never showed. Calamari appetizer was spot on, seafood fra diavolo divine, chicken Francese superb. Service? accented staff, one bloke nearly bowled me over while I was walking towards the restroom. Cappuccino and dessert saved the evening, but barely. Three stars—food shines, everything else drags.

This place has incredible ambiance, perfect for a special date, and the staff is warm and welcoming. I was immediately taken with how beautiful it is here.
The Incident: I arrived with a group and immediately notified the host of my mollusk allergy (clams, oysters, abalone). He assured me they could accommodate. An hour later, after only amazing bread rolls and a glass of wine, I still had no safe food. Out of hunger and against the waiter’s direct warning not to share my friends’ food, I tried a small amount of vegetables, mashed potatoes, and steak.
The Result: I had to abruptly excuse myself to take Claritin and Benadryl as I felt the slow onset of anaphylaxis. The waiter was honestly vigilant in his warning—the failure lay in the kitchen’s execution and protocols.
The Verdict: My friends adored their meals, but the cross-contamination risk is extreme. Unlike stricter kitchens in NY/NJ, here “if you order food that isn’t seafood, you are still eating seafood.” For anyone without allergies, it’s a great spot. For anyone with a seafood allergy, I implore you to dine elsewhere. The risk is simply not worth it .

We’ve eaten here a few times now & always enjoy ourselves. This time we were celebrating some medical milestones & dropped in for a quick lunch, although mostly we come for dinner. Lunch was good. Great drinks, great menu, and a fun time. I really love the patio furniture here, even though we typically eat indoors.

My friend and I stopped by this wonderful establishment to celebrate a big win for her and decided to go with appetizers and drinks! We were not disappointed at all with the food selection or the drinks we had! There are vegetarian options which all of the appetizers we did get were vegetarian friendly!
The service was phenomenal also. Our server was attentive. Definitely a great place to stop in and grab a quick bite or have dinner! The restaurant is also beautifully decorated!

Our first time to Aldo’s was last night and it was fantastic! Beautifully decorated, it was warm and festive. Everyone there was friendly. We had the Brussels Sprouts, Pork Chop and Braised Short Ribs (special) as well as cocktails. Everything was delicious! Portions were great and they were very attentive when I asked about my meal being gluten free. We will definitely make this a regular stop!

I’ve been to Aldo’s in the past and it has always been good. Unfortunately they have become one of those places that take the money and have forgotten about service and atmosphere. We had reservations and they did not have a table available for us. We were not the only ones. They heavily overbooked the restaurant and had not excuse and didn’t even appear to be sorry for not having our table. All kinds of excuses. People were sitting on top of each other, and they didn’t have the staff to handle it. We were lucky enough that seats at the bar opened up as we were standing there deciding whether to leave or not. The bar tender was good, but taking care of the entire restaurant. Needless to say, it was over 3 hours to get out of there. I see why the reviews and ratings are going in the wrong direction. Owners getting greedy.

Delicious food! I had the beef tenderloin over fettuccine with mushrooms and Deglaze sauce. Great portion size too. I ate 2 more meals off my left overs. Service was excellent! Dessert was to die for, Dubi chocolate and vanilla ice cream. The coconut ice cream was also a big hit Can’t wait to go back.

Have been here many times but this last visit will be our last. We were warned by a family member to keep our receipt and take a picture of what was left as tip due to them being charged an additional $30 on the tip line…. Well after my husband checked his account he was also charged an additional $30 for the tip! Manager sided with waiter and said the tip was not sufficient in the waiters opinion so “maybe that’s why he did it”… so my husband had to go back to the restaurant under the impression he would receive a $30 refund on his card but no he was given a $50 gift card !! Why would we go back to an establishment who allows their employees to steal from their customers?!? I would stay far away from here! The server also forgot to put in an order for my mother in law which delayed our meal so instead of you thinking that you deserved an extra $30 tip on top of the already $28 tip when you never apologized for the delay and barely checked in on us please do some self reflection. Owners are lucky the police were not involved as this was clearly fraud and is apparently a common theme.

We were so excited to visit Aldo’s after their long-anticipated opening, and unfortunately we were left disappointed. There are definitely a lot of kinks that need to be worked out with the service, but we also felt that all of our dishes tasted heavily of black pepper and were very salty. When we were initially seated, a man who was not our waiter brought over waters for each of us and a basket of bread, which was great. However, after our waitress came to take our drink orders and a few of us said we were going to stick with our water, she brought over additional glasses while our other ones were still full, which made the table cluttered. Not really a big deal, but we found it strange, and it took a while for a busser to clear off our table, so it began to feel crowded after multiple courses. The house salads were fine, though my mom said the lemon vinaigrette tasted artificially sweet, and as mentioned before, the pasta fagioli type soup was very salty. The waitress was unsure of what the soup was called, but it seemed similar enough to pasta fagioli. For our meals, the mashed potatoes and cavatelli were heavily coated in black pepper, and the bolognese had a distinct nutmeg flavor that we found off putting. When my cavatelli dish first arrived to the table, it appeared with sausage instead of chicken as I requested. A server different from our waitress brought it over, and when I told her I had asked for chicken, she flagged over the waitress to let her know. The waitress was silent, basically looking at the ground, and never apologized for the error. I got the impression that she didn’t believe I had asked for chicken, but my family confirmed that was the choice I made. I will say I was impressed with how quickly they were able to remake the dish for me. A lot of the issues here I’m sure will be fixed over time with more experience, but I definitely won’t be in a rush to come back.
