I absolutely loved everything about the Alaskan Oyster Shack! The oysters were incredibly fresh, some of the best I’ve ever had. I also got a half dozen BBQ’d right on the spot that were amazing. The location was perfect. The shack was just a short walk from the cruise dock but far enough from the crowds to feel like a hidden gem. The owners were so friendly and great to chat with. You can really tell they care about what they do. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who loves oysters and is looking for a fun, laid-back place to enjoy them. I hope they start shipping soon!

We were on a Princess cruise (The Royal Princess) and we docked in Ketchikan right by the Alaskan Oyster Shack. I knew they were going to be great and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I got them just before boarding the ship after a really fun morning seeing the town in the pouring rain.

Rain was not going to stop me from enjoying these oysters and I was soaked, but thoroughly enjoyed them.

The lady selling them was really friendly and her husband is a local fisherman. These were the best oysters I’ve ever had! I’m guessing they were Miyagi oysters (I should have asked).

If you’re on the Royal Princess (or any ship, we happened to be the closest), do yourself a favor and support a local business while enjoying an amazing culinary experience.

The presentation in a bowl on ice was fantastic.

Pardon the fog on the camera lens. It was really pouring but that totally added to the experience.

She told me I could find some cover from the rain around the corner of the building, so I went there and ate these off of a wooden barrel and loved every minute of it; it might as well have been the Chef’s table at your favorite Michelin-starred seafood restaurant.

These oysters are worth the trip, rain or shine!

I think this will end up being an “if you know, you know” type of place.

Tony Bourdain would have loved these oysters.

Edit (2 months later): Every oyster can be a little bit gritty. The fishermen don’t have any control over that. They’re bivalves and that’s how they work. It comes with the territory.

I’ve had hundreds of oysters at this point in my life and these are THE best if you’re fortunate enough to be in the area.

This is such an awesome place, owned by long time Ketchikan residents. Let me tell you: you won’t find oysters this fresh anywhere else! They source all of their oysters locally, helping other local area businesses and offering you a taste of the fresh Alaskan ocean! You can definitely taste the difference. They also have a handful of sauces and accoutrement to complement your oysters. In the afternoons they also offer grilled oysters and their secret seasoning mix is to die for! Come quick, they only have a limited supply every day! It’s also great to support locally owned and operated businesses, especially ones owned by a childhood friend!

My husband LOVED the raw oysters and slurped them down happily with a bit of the house sauce. Sweet staff behind the counter, and the owners were on site talking about the product and sustainability. Great food and experience!

Stopped by while our cruise docked for the day. The oysters were fresh and much larger than the usual oysters back home. They are served with a tasty house-made sauce. The staff were friendly and it was fun sharing a table with some of the local commercial fisherman who shared their stories with us. Highly recommend for anyone visiting!

First-Class Oysters. The best I have ever had. I highly recommended stopping by and seeing Jase and Maura at the Alaskan Oyster Shack. Ordered the dozen and had to go back for a second dozen!

Friendly food stand with seating outside. Oysters are caught locally. Half a dozen taster (3 types of local- 2 each) for 24$. So fresh and a must try for oyster lovers. Different sauces available. If you don’t like seafood, there were a couple of other food trucks nearby but not sure if they are always there. No inside seating.

We ordered two dozen oysters. They were creamy oysters. We had two different kinds, so I don’t know which one got sick.Later that evening, both my husband and I got sick. We both had diarrhea and I threw up twice.

Staff was knowledgeable and she educated us on not only location, but also the methods on how the oysters are cultivated. We were in the middle of a 15 day trip that included driving the west coastline and cruising Alaska. Over a dozen different restaurants for oysters during the trip from N. California, Oergon, Washington, and 5 Alaskan ports, and these were by far the best. I will grade every oyster I eat for the rest of my life with this experience as my threshold for excellence, thank you for the memory!
