I drove all the way from Auburn, Al to Gainesville just to see if the viral Alabama Rib Shack was the real deal. Spoiler alert: it absolutely is.
This isn’t just good BBQ. It’s “lean back in your chair, close your eyes, and rethink your life choices” good. The atmosphere reminded me of grandma’s house, surrounded by family!
Friendly folks, generous portions, and flavors that stick with you long after the last bite…no wonder TikTok blew this place up. Believe the hype. This spot is a must-stop.

The food is quite good! The seasoning and flavor of everything was really good. I had the pulled pork sandwich. You really could eat the pulled pork without any bbq sauce on it. It was seasoned so well.
I went with a rather big group. It took us a few to order but the food came out quite fast.
The owner is super friendly and made sure everyone in the restaurant was happy. This town is small but do not sleep on this restaurant when going through.
Decent seating inside but plenty of outside seating. The outside patios are beautifully decorated with plants and Willow trees. It would be a lovely place to eat outside during fall.

Oh my goodness, there are so many great things I can say about this hidden gem! The service was amazing, the wait time was short, and the food was the BEST I’ve ever had. If I could, I’d give them a 10 star rating! The owner was so friendly and even came out to see how we liked the food and explained their cooking process. The decor was very interesting to look over whilst waiting for our food to arrive as well. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we will definitely be back!

Jamie Lee is the man. Well worth the hour drive. Everyone talks about the ribs but my personal favorite was the Ox tails. Can’t forget about the collards and beans. You can feel the love in the food. Roll Tide from Tuscaloosa.

My 1st visit was wonderful, great, fantastic, 5 stars in every category, and even gave a military discount. But this 3rd visit was not so good. The 2nd visit, they were closed, but when I called before driving 20 miles, the voicemail never mentioned they were closed that weekend.
The owner was the only one with a smile. His employees, not so much. The cashier and waiters were not invested at all. Standing around in a huddle, only going to clean tables once the customer leaves. Not offering to clear used dishes or refresh drinks or offering dessert. Oh! and still no Greens again! which were on the menu. I think the previous weekend when they were closed played a part on this weekends focus.

We stopped by here for lunch one day. Folks, I’ve been bbq’ing for 40 years and Pitmaster Jamie has got it down! I saw pictures of his smokers several months ago and knew I had to make the trip at some point in time.
The Alabama Rib Shack is a bit out of the way but definitely worth the trip! Super friendly service and some of the best Q ever. Folks, they also cater.
I had a combo plate with St. Louis ribs and jerk chicken wow! We also had the pulled pork, tender and tasty. Our sides were collards and mac and cheese. Both well seasoned and delicious.
We will definitely be returning.

Loved the atmosphere and the food was fantastic! Probably the best collard greens I’ve ever had. All of the food is locally sourced. Can’t wait to come back and spend some time on the patio. Pitmaster Jamie Lee was great! Stop by if you’re in the area! Worth the detour off the interstate!

Absolutely one the best BBQ restaurants I’ve been to in Alabama!! The restaurant is located in Gainesville, AL, one of rich history and this BBQ restaurant fits right in! All the food we had was absolutely delicious! I had the St Louis rib and 1/4 chicken plate with the best collard greens and cole slaw as a side. My wife had a BBQ pulled pork plate with Cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans. If they have strawberry shortcake, definitely get it! My wife got it and i tried it and it was phenomenal, the cake is lemon ppmd cake which makes it even more stunning!! The staff are super friendly and always making sure you’re enjoying your meal. The restaurant atmosphere makes you feel like you’re at home and has a very homey/hunting cabin feel to it. The owner Jamie Mitchell was super friendly and came out to make sure we were enjoying everything. If you’re looking for an excellent BBQ restaurant with great service and great atmosphere, look no further than Alabama Rib Shack in Gainesville, AL! We will definitely be back soon!
