Ala Shanghai is truly a gem! I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The food was incredibly fresh, authentic, and full of rich Shanghai flavors. Every dish was perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented, and tasted even better than it looked.

The soup dumplings were juicy and delicious, the entrées were flavorful with generous portions, and everything came out hot and fast. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the whole meal feel welcoming and comfortable.

Whether you’re stopping by for a casual dinner or celebrating something special, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend Ala Shanghai for anyone craving top-quality, authentic Chinese food in the area!

The staff were very friendly and helpful in choosing some of the dishes we tried. We tried 2 noodles dishes that were excellent (their noodles are homemade)! We also tried the pork bao buns and a dumpling sampler. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be returning to try more.

This place seemed to be renovated. The inside interior doesn’t look the same as any of the pics I have seen on Google.
It’s a bit dimmer inside. And they played jazz music.
Quiet dining experience with excellent service from all the staff!
Good authentic food!
Stir fry pea shoots with garlic was yummy but some of the pea shoots are old and chewy.
Pan fried pork buns are juicy and delicious.
Story fry rice cake with some sort of greens. The texture of the rice cakes were too mushy.
Rice wine marinated chicken as appetizer was pretty good. But light on the flavor.
Overall, it’s a B +on the food. Service was A!

I enjoyed a really delicious weekday lunch with my husband a few weeks ago. It was our first time here, and we were impressed immediately by the ambiance. The restaurant was full but not loud; everyone seemed to be eating, talking, and generally enjoying ourselves. This is definitely one of the nicer places to go for Chinese food.

Eta: I have been back a few more times and it is great every time. Absolutely consistent! Adding more pics of more delicious food.

We were seated quickly, and tea and water were brought out right away. The waiter answered our questions easily and we were surprised by how fast the food came out.

All of it was delicious! The egg drop soup was some of the best I have had. I love that all of their chicken dishes use white meat; the General Tso came with the perfect amount of spice, too. We also shared the Beef Chow Fun. It was good, but I am excited to try other entrees next time.

We didn’t feel rushed at all. Despite the quick arrival of the food, there was no push for us to go. It was nice to enjoy our lunch and even chat with one of the nice young men who works there.

I can’t wait for another visit – highly recommend.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Capital District. The food is beautiful and delicious. The waiters are friendly and attentive. Many gluten free options including dumplings to enjoy. This is a great restaurant to go to when you want to slow down, mindfully eat & drink tea while relaxing in a welcoming environment.

Food always is delicious, however the service is lacking. Our server was attentive but borderline rude. After my friend and I ordered the bigger soup and him seemingly disapproving of this decision he made it known. We had dined there before, we loved the egg drop soup, we each wanted a whole bowl. Then we were enjoying our food, my lychee martini was great, but as it got later we felt increasingly unwelcome. Our waiter even started singing a song within earshot of how we should go home to our families. It was not closing time and there were still other diners enjoying dinner, so was that really necessary? We were celebrating a birthday and ordered plenty, it just is not the level of hospitality I would expect from this establishment.

We were looking for Chinese take out in lathem and the place I went to was closed so I saw this place nearby. There’s not too many sit down chinese restaurants in the area so my friend and we’re like lots go. The place is small, very quaint nicely lit. Service was great. Food was delicious. It looked like there was family style dishes there. All the tables around us were filled with beautiful looking foods. We ordered a beef noodle dish and a beef with veggies dish and some egg drop soups that had a hint of corn. It was fabulous. I wish I could remember the names. Also Hot tea and it was perfect. Clean fresh tasty. I need to go back and explore the menu a little more. Loved this place.

Ala Shanghai offers a mixed experience that leans heavily on its culinary strengths but falters in ambiance and consistency.

Let’s start with the positives: the food at Ala Shanghai is expertly prepared and showcases authentic flavors. Each dish we ordered, from the dim sum to the main courses, was carefully crafted and delicious. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, providing recommendations and ensuring our dining experience was comfortable.

However, the ambiance left much to be desired. The restaurant was bustling and incredibly loud, making it nearly impossible to hold a conversation at our table. This detracted significantly from what could have been a more relaxed evening.

One dish that particularly disappointed was the drunken chicken. It arrived bland, and frankly unappetizing in appearance. Given the otherwise high standard of the meal, this was a noticeable letdown.

In summary, Ala Shanghai impresses with its culinary prowess and attentive service, but falls short in creating a conducive dining atmosphere and maintaining consistency across all dishes. If you’re willing to overlook these shortcomings, the restaurant offers a worthwhile culinary journey into authentic Chinese cuisine.

The service was beyond good. We were tag teamed by 3 pleasant, efficient young men who seemed to anticipate our wishes.
The food was delicious. Shrimp Dumplings were exquisite. Hot and Sour soup was savory and everything you want in a soup. The menu is extensive with Dim Sum served all day!
We can’t wait to return. It is an hour and 45 minutes from home, but worth the trip.

My Go-To for Authentic Chinese in the Albany Area: Ala Shanghai
Let me tell you, if you’re looking for truly delicious and authentic Chinese food in the Albany area, look no further than Ala Shanghai in Latham. This has easily become my absolute favorite spot.
From the moment you walk in, you can tell they take pride in their food and service. The staff is always so welcoming and attentive, making every dining experience a pleasant one.
And the food? Oh my goodness, the food! It’s consistently outstanding. We have our go-to favorites, of course. The General Tso’s Shrimp is a must-try – perfectly crispy shrimp coated in that classic, flavorful sauce. And the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce is just divine, so tender and packed with that savory, slightly spicy garlic goodness.
But we’ve also ventured beyond our staples and been equally impressed. The Fish in Chili Sauce is a fantastic choice if you like a bit of heat and incredibly flavorful fish. And the Chicken in Black Bean Sauce is another winner, rich and savory with perfectly cooked chicken.
Honestly, everything we’ve tried at Ala Shanghai has been top-notch. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the care they put into each dish. If you’re craving authentic and delicious Chinese food with excellent service, do yourself a favor and check out Ala Shanghai. You won’t be disappointed!
