What we ordered:

– Pappardelle Lamb $16.85
This was soooo savory and if you love lamb this is the perfect pasta for you! This was my first time having lamb meat in pasta and so I just had to try it. It’s slow braised lamb neck with toasted pistachio and percorino romano. Honestly the portions looked small to me when I first got it but I actually only ate half and was so full. Love the taste of all the herbs in the lamb. The lamb was so tender and loved the fatty parts of it. I’d give it a 5/5.

– Bucatini Carbonara $16.95
My fiancé ordered this one, he seemed to enjoy it and was able to finish the whole bowl. It’s made with egg yolk, guanciale and pecorino romano.

– Wagyu meatballs $12
This came with 4 meatballs, I thought it was ok. I was craving meatballs at the time and it helped satisfy the craving. I’d give it a 3/5.

I’d definitely come back if I’m ever in the area! I’d love to try their other pasta and pizzas.

We decided to do an Italian staycation, where we go to all places Italy while staying in LA. One of our absolute highlights from this was Al Dente!

We each ordered a different pasta and pizza and then sat at one of the tables inside. We then started to taste test a little of each and the WOW factor struck instantly. We had a couple dessert things, I don’t remember what they’re called, but they were fantastic.

It was all so good that we couldn’t decide what we liked best. When we were done, we decided to order a few other dishes to go, plus some olive and rosemary bread, that the owner had recommended.

On our way out we noticed they sell fresh made pasta to make at home, so note to self, need to do that too!

Simply put, the food here is amazing. If you haven’t been, this is the perfect way to get a super tasty bit of Italy here in LA!

The pasta is great, such high quality and intentional menu items. I got the Fusilli Genovese and the pesto was incredibly fresh and tasted amazing. It’s an A, and with the price/value it becomes an A+.
The service was great and the woman who helped me was so sweet. I was NOT asked to post a review, but I just really hope this place does well and gets credit where it’s due! Try it out, you won’t regret. I’m looking forward to trying their other items

Organic pasta and breads! Quality ingredients and quality service. The guy at the front was so nice! I was so sad they didn’t have carbonara and he gave me a slice of pizza he made my day. I will be back to get my carbonara soon

Imagine a home-cooked meal — that’s exactly what you get here. Everything is absolutely delicious and scrumptious! The owner catered a wedding we attended, and it was so incredible we had to track down where we could get more. The owner is from Italy, and everything is made on site, including the pastas and sauces, which you can also purchase to cook at home. Try any of his pasta dishes and you’ll quickly fall in love with this establishment.

A true Italian gem I discovered on a whim!

I discovered Al Dente Pasta Shop by scrolling through my InKind app with a serious craving for Italian food. Their photos caught my eye, so naturally I did my due diligence — Google reviews, their website, the whole thing. They had a solid five-star rating. Now, I’m usually skeptical because five stars doesn’t always mean excellence, but y’all… they weren’t lying.

As someone new to LA, I’ve been on a mission to find exceptional Italian food, and what really drew me in was their Cavatelli. The only other Cavatelli I’ve had here was at the Four Seasons Hotel and I need you to understand – Al Dente’s version stands RIGHT THERE with them. The key difference? Al Dente gives you bigger, more generous chunks of pork, but both are outstanding. Theirs is absolutely spectacular.

But let me break down everything I ordered because this turned into a full Italian feast:

The Cavatelli – Already mentioned, but worth repeating: this dish is perfection. Rich, perfectly cooked pasta, generous pork, exactly what you want in this classic.

Organic rotisserie chicken with broccolini — perfectly seasoned, incredibly juicy, and served with a savory gravy that brought everything together effortlessly. I’m eating it as I type this review LOL!

Tagliatelle “The Butcher” — bold, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. This dish does not play around when it comes to seasoning. Whoever is in charge of seasoning…I appreciate you! Nothing bland!

Caesar salad — fresh and well-prepared. The dressing leaned a bit lemon-forward for my personal taste, but that’s purely preference. I added a touch of anchovy paste at home, and it was perfect.

Every single item was thoughtfully prepared, full of flavor, and clearly made with care.

Overall? A 10/10 experience.

I also want to give a special shoutout to Diane, who helped me during my visit. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to recommend their most popular dishes — plus what I should try next (which I absolutely will).

Al Dente Pasta Shop is a must for authentic Italian. This place is officially on my regular rotation.✨

Who doesn’t like homemade pasta with some fine dining pedigree? Al Dente is a solid option in the neighborhood for casual dine in and to-go. The staff is incredibly nice, helpful, and gracious.

Meat and veg pizzas are presented up front and are served with a quick heat up. The middle is fluffy, the crust is light and crispy perfect for dipping in any leftover pasta sauce.

The time and effort is apparent in the pasta dishes I’ve tried. Classic Bolognese has nice deep flavors, stewed lamb is tender though I’d personally like it to be a little less runny, crispy gnocchi has great potato flavor but I think the crispy gets a little bit lost with all the oil and my last serving was a little too salty.

They take orders online and by phone, street parking is a bit limited especially during rush hours and the weekends.

Staff was super friendly gave recommendations.

Had the cavatelli & bucatini carbonara.

Cavatelli was the favorite & came out piping hot. It was hearty, lots of veggies & meat and nicely balanced and light.

It contrasted the creamy carbonara and crispy guanciale nicely.

Definitely coming back!
