Food is really good and I had the hibachi with steak that was succulent. The little soup that comes with the order was lacking in flavor. The Akoya sauce isn’t bad and hits the stomach lightly. It’s aioli-like. The ube matcha hot milk tea was lacking but they were super nice and willing to allow me to try out their apple matcha premium tea and loved it. Great ambiance and takes me back to Tokyo. Really solid place and a great addition to this side of town. Looking forward to trying the bento boxes next time!

Finally a GOOD hibachi place on VCU campus! I got the hibachi steak rice bowl with royal milk tea. The steak was super tender, vegetables and rice were cooked just right. The portion size is alot!
Great fast service!
Atmosphere: very chill, clean, and decorated nicely. Def recommend stopping by here if you need to study or work since there is a good amount of seating and teas/matcha options

Akoya opened very recently and it’s very much worth the try! We had the bento box meal with a drink. The food felt super fresh, and everything was clean and tidy.
As to the quality and taste of the food, the chicken was tender and delicious, as well as the shrimp. The shrimp tempura was very nicely fried without being oily or soggy – just perfect! The salad was fresh and crisp. Spring rolls were great too. And as a minor plus, the little pink sauce was outstanding.
Overall, great new little restaurant in the neighborhood, friendly and fast service, and great flavor – Recommended!

The drinks are so good at this place, I prefer the matcha here over the other places around the VCU area! The food is good/alright for the price point, but doesn’t stop me from coming back.
I don’t think they offer wifi, but if they did I think it’d be more popular during the day as a spot to stop at and work for a bit, since all of the drinks are yummy! That’d make me visit more often.

I will definitely be going back to Akoya! The iced green tea is so refreshing and goes perfect with the food. I got the rice bowl with the spicy sauce on top which gave it great flavor! It is very affordable for college students nearby. The woman at the counter was so kind as well and ordering is really easy. I can see this place doing really well! Go try this new spot out ASAP!!

4.4 rating. Appetizers of spring rolls and goyza chicken were very good. Teriyaki chicken and tofu were fair, weak on flavor. Food was ready quickly. Staff nice. I did take out but the small inside eating area looks cute.
Lots of vegetarian options.

This is a new location for this restaurant the heart of VCU. I have not been to the original. Decided to stop by for a quick dinner after work. We were greeted immediately and offered assistance with ordering if needed. There are kiosks there to order and you pick your food up once it’s ready. I loved the Japanese decor, lots of cherry blossoms and cats! We got the takoyaki, and both the tofu and shrimp habachi. The tofu was cooked well and absorbed the teriyaki flavor. Shrimp was fresh and juicy. It was my first time trying takoyaki so I can’t compare it but it was delicious! I would say the prices are a tad bit more expensive than other competitors but it is a decent portion of food. I do wish there were more vegetable and sauce options available. Worth checking out, especially for the students since it’s a convenient location. Good Japanese food and wonderful service, I can tell they put their heart into this.
