This place is awesome! The Mother Road Market reminds me of my old college cafeteria with dozens of places to eat to choose from all in one big shared space. The Akira sushi is so fresh and delicious and made right in front of you. Great place to meet someone for lunch. Parking in the back!

I ordered a bowl of ramen at this Japanese ramen shop and it was terrible. It cost $16.50, and they didn’t even serve it in a proper bowl — just a disposable takeout container. The chashu pork had a strong, unpleasant smell and tasted awful. Honestly, this is the worst Japanese ramen I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We got the 2 rolls for 14.25, California roll and Philadelphia roll. California roll was delicious, the Philadelphia roll salmon melts in your mouth. 10/10 recommend!! So good we went back for seconds!

I used to love going to the Akira location in Owasso. Thought I would give the mother road location a try.

I ordered 2 Big Daddy Rolls. I ate one roll and when I realized I was getting full, I began putting the second in a to go container. When picking the pieces up to place in the box, I noticed aluminum foil flakes stuck to the insides of the roll pieces.

I went to the counter to tell them what I found in my food, and the front desk lady looked unsurprised and disappointed, as if this isnt the first time this has happened. The chef who made my food explained to me that he uses aluminum foil to hold the sushi together so he can cut it. He then offered to remake my food using plastic wrap instead. If I got metal in my food and I have ingested an unknown amount of metal, why on earth would I want it remade with possibly plastic in it at that point??

I will not be returning to this location or any other Akira location. I dont want to eat any more metal than I already have.

Food was ok their new location in the mall is way better. I don’t know what’s going on with the girl in the front but I had to repeat myself multiple times. Even asked for the spicy sauce on the side that makes the ramen spicy didn’t receive it. Really seems like the girl doesn’t want her job.

The sushi was surprisingly fresh and the food itself was well cooked. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. The lady at the counter seemed uninterested in taking our order, and they initially forgot the fried rice. We also ordered spicy tuna but received regular tuna instead.

Normally we would’ve gone back to get it corrected, but the attitude from the front counter was so off-putting that we just didn’t want to deal with it. It’s pretty sad because the food tastes great — I just wish the person at the counter actually seemed to enjoy their job.

Mother road market food vendors are a hit or miss and this experience was totally a miss.

You’re honestly better off at the other ramen joints in town. We got the miso and tonkatsu ramen, a roll of sushi, and “fried rice”. Yes! I put that in quotes. You might as well get plain white rice because you most likely won’t be able to tell the difference. I mean, I thought it was a joke when I saw it. I even had to ask the girl in front if this was the fried rice and she confirmed. LOL WUT?! Refer to photos for context.

The sushi roll was expensive and got nothing to show for it really.

The ramen was a dud, but edible. The only thing good about it was the pork.

First and last time for sure.

Browsing Mother Road Market and Akira caught my eye. Grabbed two rolls to-go (they have specials if you combine two or three rolls) and was pleasantly surprised with the layout when I got them home.
For one, I didn’t have to request soy sauce, chopsticks, wasabi, etc as they had thought to include everything.
Secondly, flavors of the two rolls were great. I hadn’t had an eel roll in some time and that was the highlight for me.
A couple nicks- the spicy tuna roll was pretty plain, literally rice and a wedge of tuna encased in nori. Heat level was non existent.
Secondly the actual roll slices were quite thin.

All in all I enjoyed my food from Akira, and could see returning.

I love eating at Akira at Mother Road Market. I always get the Tonkotsu Ramen and it’s so good. They have the best pork belly I’ve ever had and the bamboo shoots are really good. My go-to for ramen.

There was hair wrapped into our sushi. They also don’t run their broth through a strainer for ramen, so the soup is filled with particulates and denatured protein.

The guy who took my order was really nice- that’s the only reason I wouldn’t give it 1 stars
