I took my ten-year-old here for an early dinner and was delighted with the tasty food and friendly service. The atmosphere is inviting with a modern spin. It was happy hour, so I tried the poke bowl paired with a hot sake. My son had the kids’ bento box with tofu. The fresh and flavorful food makes us eager to return soon! 5/5 stars!
I love a good bento box and their’s was solid. The California rolls and chicken teriyaki were good, but the tonkatsu was super dry. I’d skip that. I also tried their Cadillac roll with steak. It was huge, but I wouldn’t order it again.
The best part of the meal was the salad dressing. I kid you not. It was the best Japanese salad dressing I’ve ever had. It’s so good, they even bottle it! It was $9, but I had to have it.
We’ll be back to try more rolls.
Meal also comes with rice, salad, edamame and miso soup
Service is fantastic
My cousin ordered a bento box with teriyaki salmon. He was satisfied with the amount of food, quality ingredients, and savory. Overall he said 8/10.
My aunt and I split 3 sushi rolls.
The deep fried roll had a decent flavor but felt too heavy so we were unable to finish it.
The roll with steak on top was the favorite of the night. Very tasty & filling.
The 3rd roll was also delicious. Slightly spicy with the sauces and I asked for the jalapeño on the side. My aunt ate those and loved it, personally I’m not a fan.
Overall it was good quality food, excellent service and nice atmosphere.
My only complaint would be the very slow service. The restaurant was about halfway full but it still took almost an hour to receive our order.
*side note- there is only 1 restroom & there’s usually a line so keep that in mind. My nephew & cousin ended up going to the Starbucks next door because someone had been in there for over 20 mins*
The portion sizes were also extremely generous for the pricepoint.
Overall a positive experience!
She was so accommodating with individual checks(Party of 6)
We had a birthday celebration and she took the cake and put the candles on when she brought it out! The Salmon was the best… looking forward to going back again! 5 Star
The server we encountered was notably friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to offer recommendations was appreciated, especially when navigating the extensive options.
While the food at Akira is generally good, there’s room for improvement in terms of taste. Some dishes could benefit from a bit more refinement to truly elevate the flavors.
One aspect that slightly detracts from the experience is the restroom situation. During busy periods, the facilities can become overcrowded, which may cause some inconvenience for diners.
The restaurant offers a pleasant ambiance, suitable for both casual dinners and special occasions. The sushi bar provides an opportunity to watch the chefs at work, adding an element of entertainment to your meal.
In conclusion, Akira in Aptos is a commendable sushi spot with a few areas for improvement. Its strengths lie in its diverse menu, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere. With some fine-tuning of flavors and attention to facility management during peak hours, Akira has the potential to become a top-tier sushi destination in the area.
