What really stands out is the care the team puts into each visit. Most recently, they managed to sneak me in for a reservation over Valentine’s Day, which was no small feat. My party left with nothing but smiles and full stomachs. The food, service, and atmosphere all came together perfectly.
Aker is a great example of what hospitality should look like. A thoughtful team, excellent service, and a dining experience that consistently delivers.
We started with some cocktails and sushi. The sushi flavors were fantastic. I wish I remembered the names at the moment. I will definitely be back for the sushi again. We then had the Chilean sea bass and the wagyu steak. The sea bass was by far my favorite. Cooked to perfection and the sauce on top went well with the fish and mashed potatoes. Absolutely phenomenal.
Only challenge we had was our server was not that attentive. We weren’t checked on for very long periods. We had to stop a different server to get ours to come take our order. It won’t stop us from coming back.
All in all, glad to have found a great restaurant in salt lake!
They have Nobu prices with out the flavor and the experience. The best thing I tried was the crispy rice appetizer and I’m sure it was because it was fried.
They should stick to stake and not hype their “dry aged” fish.
Plenty of other sushi spots for better quality and much lower price.
My friend and I walked in for a table for two and were greeted by the host, Geo. Before leaving the house, I checked OpenTable and saw numerous reservation times available throughout the evening. There were plenty of open slots, which is why we didn’t think we needed to make one in advance.
When we arrived, we were immediately told the restaurant was completely full for the night — no tables, no bar seating, nothing available. The response felt dismissive and final, as though there was no room for discussion or assistance.
Standing there confused, I reopened OpenTable and saw the same reservations still available. I made one on the spot, directly in front of Geo, and suddenly we were able to be seated.
Once we were brought inside, we noticed multiple empty tables throughout the dining area. After being told the restaurant was “fully booked,” seeing open seating inside only added to how uncomfortable and awkward the entire interaction felt.
We’ve dined here many times and have brought friends and family because we genuinely enjoy the restaurant. That’s what made tonight’s front-of-house experience so surprising. The tone felt subtly rude and unwelcoming, and there was no acknowledgment or apology for the confusion.
Hospitality starts at the door. Unfortunately, tonight’s experience did not reflect that.
Once inside, you’ll be greeted with a huge bar with a beautiful backdrop as well as spacious seating area. I found the tables to be spaced adequately so that we weren’t being overheard and still had a bit of privacy.
Unfortunately, the service for our visit was less than stellar. Although the restaurant was mostly empty, we waited for quite some time before being greeted by a server who was confused as to who should be waiting our table. She was happy to help but the confusion left off on the wrong foot. From there. We ended up waiting quite a long time between courses as much as 20 minutes or more between our appetizer and then sushi rolls and ultimately second shared course.
Due to the delay, we were eager to skip dessert and make our way out.
Now, that being said, the food was incredible. The bone marrow appetizer was succulent and delicious and something new. The sushi rolls made to order with a unique flair and the wagyu gaioza nearly had me seeing Divine eyes.
I’ll be back, it definitely warrants a second chance
