Came to Akbar as a tourist from out of state on recommendation from a friend. Let’s just say I found a great reason to return to the Baltimore area. Authentic Indian food and experience, I will be stopping by anytime I am back in the area and you should too!

Jazz, the owner, was an incredible host and gave us great recommendations for each course of the dinner which played a huge role in getting the authentic northern Indian experience.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had a nice ambiance for a pleasant dining experience.

The food for every course was delicious. The appetizer sampler and lentil soup to start with a chai were perfect for a cloudy evening. We shared three delicious curry dishes paneer kofta, lamb xacutti, and lamb pasanda. The lamb was tender and cooked to perfection. All the sauces were full and flavorful. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Dessert we had the mango lassi and ice cream. I didn’t think I could fit anymore food at this point but they were both so creamy and flavorful. Do yourself a favor and don’t skip this part!

Still not convinced? Take a shot and try it out. Bring a friend and they probably won’t stop talking about it!

If you are looking for delicious Indian food and great atmosphere. I urge you to go here! The food is incredible! We originally were supposed to go to another restaurant but didn’t have a reservation so when we pivoted and found this restaurant it was great luck. Every single thing we tried did not disappoint. Definitely recommend this place and we will definitely make the hour drive back here !

If you’re into hearty, flavorful Indian food, Akbar is a great find in Baltimore. The moment you step inside, the cozy vibe and warm service make you feel welcome — perfect for a casual dinner or a relaxed night out. I especially loved their garlic naan and chicken tikka masala; the spices are bold without being overwhelming, and the dishes feel authentic. They also have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which is a nice plus. The lunch buffet (when available) is a solid value if you want to sample a variety of items. Overall, it’s a tasty, comfortable spot for anyone craving Indian classics in Midtown.

This Indian establishment is a
one-of-a-kind special place in Baltimore. Charming! I was so excited to have discovered Akbar while passing by this morning to go to the little quick-mart a few doors down.

I ate a small breakfast, drove out to the Patapsco Valley State Park for the day, got lost in the forest and crossed a part in the river that soaked my socks and shoes, only to climb up the side of the park hill to get back onto the trail, made it to the Jeep, followed through with going to Manor Hill Tavern in Ellicott City to have a beer BUT I had stayed extremely disciplined to not eat a single thing there even though I was so hungry because I knew what I was saving myself for and that was Akbar!

So here’s a shout out to Akbar and their staff and all the hard work that is paying off for them. Well done you guys. Outstanding team! Outstanding aesthetics! Outstanding atmosphere! Outstanding ambience!
And most of all outstanding food!

If this is your first time having Indian food, always start off with Chicken Madras around a level 3, like the perfect spiciness -not too basic; not too spicy. And lastly: Dear Akbar, I will be sending my love to you all all the way back from down in hot, steamy Florida and I will shout it loud that I am thankful you Akbar exist. Thank you for being here and gifting new customers and returning customers with your grace. Keep up the great work! If I sound corny and ridiculous I do apologize lol. But I am giving a genuine, wholehearted compliment.

Love, Kourtney

This quiet and authentic Indian restaurant features great decorative designed and service. This is a great place to dine as a family. They serve a buffet and dishes. Would recommend to vegetarians and vegans. The owner was our waiter and was very polite and respectful. I loved the atmosphere. I’ve had many positive experiences at this restaurant, but last night was strange. Firstly, they completely forgot about our side orders and drinks multiple times. Then, for some reason the waiter wouldn’t allow us to split the bill, so he told the other people at the table to give me cash while I paid with my card. I’ve never had experiences like that here, so my review is still positive. The food is consistently excellent!

Another Mt. Vernon staple. The food is consistently tasty and flavorful, but I recently tried the buffet and wasn’t crazy about it. Most of the dishes had gone lukewarm or even cold which took away from the dining experience.

Food is amazing! Everyone I’ve interacted with there has been amazing, although the service has very occasionally been a bit slow when picking up to-go order, but every dine-in experience has been wonderful and attentive. The restaurant is beautiful and I would highly reccomended!

Akbar is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. I live right around the corner and have gotten both takeout and dined in. Every time I go, the staff is very friendly and the food is always excellent. The naan in particular is better than most Indian restaurants in Baltimore. Fluffy, not too chewy, great flavor. My only complaint is sometimes it’s pretty empty inside- but that’s not even the restaurant’s fault. People order takeout way more often and dine-in less than they used to compared to pre-2020.

Really amazing place. Love the “neighborhood” feel to it. Service was amazing, I was 30min late for my reservation. Ordered the tandoori mixed grill, huge amount of food. Delicious! I’d love to go back and try some additional dishes.
