Nice Japanese dining in the Northern suburbs!!! The food quality is great even though there are still western infused in some dishes, but they taste good. The menu is limited but offers quite a range of Osaka dishes. They are small so better call in and book your table. The price is not on the cheap side but it is worth the food quality.

Honestly we came here because of the good review, and I was a little hesitant to write a review as I didn’t want to leave a negative review at a what seemed hardworking family, however, I need to suggest that the food here is very ordinary, and expensive compared to the amount of food and quality. I noticed they use some ordinary ingredients but charge a premium.
Honestly if you are looking for good traditional Japanese food, unfortunately this isn’t the place

We had a fantastic time here! The food was wonderful and so was the service. This tiny place is infinitely superior to the two Japanese restaurants in the main Ivanhoe shopping strip, IMO. Those places are both a bit old and staid, something this wonderful place is not. What they do here in a very compact space is amazing. It’s a serious hidden gem. We had a range of dishes – see photos – and they were all delicious. My highlights were the sashimi, the soft shell crab and the kingfish collar. The desserts are innovative too especially the green tea brûlée! The service throughout was utterly charming and efficient. The whole thing is a reminder of dining in Japan itself. One tip: make sure you book like we did as this is not a large restaurant. Do not miss it here. It’s a fabulous experience!

Loved it so much we came back again a week later. We had a few things we didn’t have the first time including spicy edamame, tuna tartare, dumplings, oysters and some drinks we didn’t have the first time. Absolutely delicious again with impeccable service again. It’s our new favourite place!!

Fantastic atmosphere, loving the choice of music. We found ourselves grooving along to it many time lol. The staff are just great, fun, attentive and constantly smiling. The food was good when compared to the pricing which was reasonable. Loved the hot pot and must say the sashimi hit the spot. A great venue to go to for an affordable Japanese experience. Enjoy xxx

Super attentive customer service with regular check in drink top ups. The food was outstanding, every single dish. The sashimi, akumaru maki, miso soup, nasu dengaku (eggplant) and veggie bowl. The only criticism was that the salad was a little salty, but probably just a slip of hand. The rest was faultless. Thank you Akamuru, you are now on my map for a quality and satisfying Japanese meal.

My wife and I had an outstanding dinner here tonight. We have never been to Japan, and can only imagine that this is exactly what high quality food is like there. All of our dishes were extraordinarily tasty, and not too salty or greasy. The agedashi tofu melted in our mouths, and the scallops were perfectly cooked. The standout may have been the eggplant with miso topping. So delicious! We would definitely go back here, and would rate it as one of the best Japanese food experiences we have ever had.

Stumbled upon this place by chance the other day and I’m glad I did. Amazingly authentic Japanese dishes that are great as meals, shared dishes or with a drink. Having lived in Japan for 5 years I’d struggled to find a good authentic restaurant in Melbourne, yet alone Ivanhoe but this place is as good as it comes. Oden is one soul food dish which I’d especially been missing and feared I’d never find in Aus so I’m over the moon to finally have a place close by that offers this. The Karaage is also far superior to any other Melbourne restaurant that I’ve tried. The owners are lovely and the tastes of the dishes are exquisite. Will be coming here from now on and hope to dine in after lockdown!
