Akai is a fantastic Japanese restaurant with a superb view and an incredible atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. We also really enjoyed the champagne selection — perfect to go with the meal.
The DJ was awesome and added a great vibe to the evening without being overwhelming. A special mention to our waitress, who treated us so kindly and made us feel truly welcome from start to finish.
Overall, a wonderful experience. We’ll definitely try to come back again during our stay in Brussels!

I visited this popular rooftop sushi restaurant and have mixed feelings. The sushi itself was outstanding, truly top quality. The fish was extremely fresh, the ingredients were excellent, and honestly, some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. For the food alone, I would give a solid 5 stars.
The service was fast, polite, and attentive but it felt slightly too formal and rushed. As explained by the staff, the restaurant operates with 2 time slots (before 9 pm and after 9 pm). If you don’t finish by 9 pm, you are moved to the bar. This created a constant feeling that the staff were trying to serve you as quickly as possible to keep everything on schedule, which took away from the comfort and enjoyment of the evening.
Another downside was the entrance experience. The restaurant entrance is blocked with a chain, and guests with reservations have to wait in a line while a manager escorts people into the dining room one by one. Standing and waiting in front of a closed entrance doesn’t feel very client-friendly, especially given the high prices and the level of clientele this restaurant attracts. It creates an unnecessary feeling that guests are not fully welcomed or trusted.
I’d also like to mention that due to a special occasion, we requested a window table with a panoramic city view, but unfortunately, this was not provided.

What an amazing experience. The food was delicious and this is now my favorite restaurant in Brussels.
There were so many amazing menu options. The staff were fantastic in helping me pick the best meals for my taste buds.
This spot is in a perfect location and has the best setting for a family gathering or date night.

We ordered a set menu and, overall, the food was above average for the price. The cocktails, though, were a real highlight — excellent.
Overall, we left satisfied, but there are two things that would make me hesitate about going back. First, the music became extremely loud after 8:30 pm, while we were still eating. It was impossible to have a proper conversation without shouting, and I literally lost my voice. I get turning the volume up later in the evening when people are dancing, but during dinner it really took away from the experience. Maybe others enjoyed it, but it wasn’t what I had expected from a fine-dining setting.
The second point is the seating for larger groups. If you’re a group of around 10, it’s only comfortable if you’re at a regular square or rectangular table. We were seated at circular tables next to each other, which made things a bit awkward and not very comfortable for conversation.

I was really excited to try this popular place on TikTok and Instagram, and it does look just like the pictures. It’s on a high floor with a nice view. We went on Valentine’s Day, so it was busy, which I understand, but the tables and couches were a bit dirty.
We paid more than €200 for two (no cocktails) and were still hungry. Portions are very small and all side dishes cost extra. We expected more of a party vibe, but after 22:30 nothing was really going on.
It’s an okay place, but not worth the money for me.

Akai is located on the 30th floor of the Cardo building near Rue Neuve, making it very easy to find. The moment you step inside, the stunning panoramic view steals the show—especially at night. You can admire Brussels from a breathtaking bird’s-eye perspective.
The food was exceptional, offering dishes that felt genuinely Japanese and beautifully prepared. Every plate was delicious, and the cocktails were just as impressive—well-balanced, flavorful, and incredibly tasty.

We had an amazing time at Akai in Brussels and truly enjoyed the entire evening. The service was outstanding, especially thanks to Katarina, Karolina, and Bob, who took excellent care of us — friendly, attentive, and very professional, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
The food was excellent as well. We had fantastic sushi along with other dishes, all beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The music created a great atmosphere and really set the mood for the night, while the overall vibe of the place was lively and fun. The event was well organized and full of great energy. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed longer than planned.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for great service, amazing food, excellent music, and an unforgettable night. We’ll definitely be back.

Restaurant with club vibes. The food was nice, the service was excellent and the overall atmosphere was great. We really enjoyed our time at Akai. Kind of pricy but we liked the vibe a lot. The view (30th floor) and decor were amazing too. Only downside for smokers: they have to go down to the 2nd floor since there is no terras at Akai.

We had a reservation at 9:30 PM and ended up getting seated around 10:30 PM. So a full hour of waiting, even though the restaurant clearly states that reservations are time-slotted and tables are held for a set period. When you book, you expect your table to be ready… especially when around 8 other people were also waiting.
When we finally got welcomed in the restaurant, we were told to wait at the bar because it was very busy. There were no chairs so we were just standing there. First we waited about 15 minutes, then we were told “just 3 more minutes.” Those 3 minutes turned into almost 20, and only then were we finally seated (an hour after our reservation). We did get a complimentary glass of cava, which was appreciated, but at that point we were already annoyed.
Once we finally sat down, things got a bit better. The food was good. We had the sirloin steak, which was good, and the food came out quickly. That part was definitely a plus.
I’m not sure about the service. The waiter was trying to upsell and not in a smooth way. Truffle was suggested for the steak, my friend asked if it cost extra, and the answer was just “yes” with no price, then he got distracted. It felt a bit messy and unclear, especially after everything that already happened.
Cocktails were fine, but €20 per cocktail for something pretty basic is a lot. Normally I wouldn’t care if the overall experience matched the price, but because the evening started so bad, everything felt more annoying than it should have.

Great food, bad service. Had reserved a table for dinner, got placed in the cocktail side with an extremely uncomfortable and way too small table to dine. It all felt very personal as there was plenty of room in the dining area. Only after having had 4 courses, and we were about to start the most expensive dish on the menu, we got seated in an actual dining area with proper table. Had 8 different courses with drinks and all were a top knot quality; excellent flavours and portion sizes, cooked to perfection and plated professionally. Families with very young children, social media influencers, and couples on dates – a bit of an unconventional mix of cliental perhaps, but good atmosphere. DJ playing on the background.
