Akagi is fast becoming one of our favorite date night options in the area (and we eat a lot of Japanese/Asian food). We’ve been back three times in three months and have enjoyed each visit. We really loved the takoyaki, tempura, chirashi, and sushi options (especially for happy hour!) in particular, but the hibachi and ramen are also solid. Definitely don’t skip out on dessert (best chocolate cake I’ve had in a restaurant!) or drinks!

Akagi has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Rockville. The sushi and hibachi are amazing and every time I go, I try something new and every meal has been so good! The staff are so welcoming and the owner Sandy is a gem. If you’re looking for consistently excellent sushi in a relaxed setting, Akagi is an easy recommendation. The Banana tempura for dessert is great and the matcha is amazing!!

The food was phenomenal usually some of the best sushi I’ve had in Maryland period. Cannot recommend this place enough and got a glimpse of some of their other hot kitchen items and there’s a chance I’m gonna come back tomorrow and get some of that because it all looks delicious!!!

My boyfriend and I were craving Japanese food and he found this place! All of the food is so delicious, fresh and made with care. Not only was the food amazing, the service was 10/10. We appreciate the kindness from the staff and she made sure we were enjoying everything. They have an amazing menu with good happy hour and lunch specials. Trust, we’ll be back!

Quiet atmosphere, amazing staff- and INCREDIBLE food. Crab Rangoon was fresh and house made. Bento boxes generous and fresh. Our waitress (who may have also been the owner) was awesome. They happily accommodate modifications to your order if you don’t see the option on the menu. Happy hour has good prices. Even non-happy hour prices are great. There’s free parking in the garage right next door to Akagi.

Sandy was incredibly welcoming and attentive! She gave great recommendations based on my preferences, and every dish came out quickly, was well prepared, and very reasonably priced. The fatty salmon was my favorite. Her personable service made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant itself was clean with a comfortable atmosphere, which made it easy to relax and focus on having a great time with company. To finish, the mango mousse cake was an absolute highlight and easily one of my favorites. I highly recommend!

I just took my lady on a date to this place and we loved it!!! They have such a vast selection of sushi that is so delicious and can satisfy all of your Sushi cravings!! You must order the dynamite muscles! They are so delicious and amazing. They topped them with some kind of tasty sauce and other delectables, I feel like I could’ve put away at least 3 or 4 orders of those! For sushi we ordered the Manhattan roll and then the crazy crunchy roll from the specialty rolls and we were extremely satisfied! They also have an amazing hibachi. We got the steak and shrimp with the steak cooked medium. That steak melted in my mouth like butter, and the shrimp was very delicate and tasty. The hibachi is a great portion size, I wish I had three stomachs so I could eat more food there! They also have a great selection of non-alcoholic refreshments for the summer, We ordered the avocado smoothie and Thai iced tea and let me tell you that avocado smoothie is a must try item! I was told that they will have alcohol available soon, they are working on getting all the right licenses. I can’t wait to be able to drink a nice Sapporo with my sushi soon!! All of their food overall was very fresh and high-quality ingredients. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Parking is very easy as well. There is a parking garage right across the street with free two hour parking, It is also conveniently located within walking distance from Twinbrook Metro. We will definitely be return customers. And I’m definitely making this my new sushi spot!!

I was bummed to hear that Green Bamboo was closing but Akagi is a very welcome update! The menu is far more versatile and it seems like more care is going into the food. Great flavors and always fresh!
I’ve done takeout many times living in the neighborhood and had a chance to check out their happy hour in person last week. The HH menu is great and the service was fabulous as always. Not on the HH menu, but I got the Dynamite Mussels (photo attached) which were incredible!! Other great things I’ve tried: Fatty Salmon Sushi, multiple great sushi rolls, Japanese Katsu Curry (chicken and shrimp udon), Ramen and the list goes on.
Sandy (the owner) knows the industry so well and is open to guidance and what the neighborhood wants but the product is already stellar and will just keep getting better!

My family and I had a wonderful experience coming to opening weekend! Good service, excellent flavors, great prices, and great atmosphere! I got the eel avocado, shrimp tempura, and California rolls (3 for $15 lunch special). They were delicious! My mom got the sashimi platter and she said the white fish was delicious and the other two were okay. Brother and dad said their sushi was excellent! Will be coming back soon!
