Alan Laird, owner of AJ’s wanted to be part of the Okaloosa Island community for some time. In 2016 Alan was offered the opportunity to grow and expand the AJ’s brand and service the Okaloosa Island community. AJ’s Oyster Shanty is the same AJ’s that you have grow. To love since 1984 in Destin. Featuring oysters raw, baked,& fried,as well as fresh local seafood,steaks, pastas, sandwiches, and kids meals. AJ’s Oyster Shanty offers indoor and outside dining to meet all your needs. You will find live music on the outdoor stage seven nights a week in the summer. AJ’s Oyster Shanty wants to be the place to bring your family & friends, and you will find that we will be there greeting you with the AJ’s Hospitality.

Things were ok. Ordered the Po’ Boy fried fish sandwich, the fish was well cooked and crispy battered but lacking in seasoning compared to the grilled/broiled fish which has blackened seasoning with lemon Parmesan. The roll was crispy and buttery, and veg was fresh though personally the sandwich tastes better with coleslaw. They give you a lot of fries, but they are kind of dry and they taste better with lemon juice and black pepper over top. I was given a portion of tartar sauce less than 2 tbsp which is not enough for dipping.

We came in a little after 9 so we didn’t expect top tier service because being in the F&B industry, I fully understand that the last guests in are treated the worst bc staff is ready to leave. But our server Hannah was PHENOMENAL!! She was so friendly, held great conversation and took great care of us for drinks, food and Kela from the kitchen even got our pup a water bowl. The staff was so accommodating and friendly towards our Dolly girl

Waited about 30 minutes outside to be seated. Once we sat down, the servers were rather quick to get drink orders. Slightly slower on the food orders. Although, the food was incredibly tasty [little salty] and filling.

We came in the evening time with a large group of 7 people, we were immediately given a table, it was very noisy, food and service could be better, we waited a long time for our order. Sorry guys, you need better waiters.

This was not one of my favorites but the staff was so kind. The Caesar salads were delicious and we ordered the spicy shrimp appetizer but the sauce kind of tasted like a sweet honey mustard. I tried to order the Rockefeller oysters but they were unable to serve it without the bacon and most of the oyster options came with bacon. We also ordered a mojito and a corona, I had to send the mojito back because it tasted watered down but they were happy to bring me a new one. We decided against entrees and we actually left so I am pretty disappointed.

One ought not visit Destin-Fort Walton and not take in the best place on the Gulf! I’d ask for Cory when it’s busy! Great atmosphere, food, service and just a great place to hang out. I really should thank them for the great experience!

Was staying across the road and with it raining I decided this would be a good place to go. I called around 8PM and the kitchen was so backed up they weren’t taking to-go orders. I wasn’t starving so I called back at 9PM and they were able to take my order and it was ready within 15 min. Red beans and rice was very good. The to-go order had the rice in one container and the red-beans in another which was a nice touch. I also got a grilled chicken ceasar salad. Both were very good and I’ll probably get them again soon.
