I have been here many times, the quality of food has suffered a major decline.
I received miso soup that was entirely broth, fine, that’s the best part, but the soup was bland, 3 pieces of green onion and no tofu or mushrooms is insulting.
The shrimp curry was thinner than snot and bland.
I ordered calamari and got a pitiful amount of sauce that was enough for two rings when we were served 8. I called the young man over and he said he would get more, he never returned. Several minutes later, I asked another woman, who had to get another woman, I presume she didnt understand english? It took three people to get more sauce…
Its disappointing, we were excited when Ajisai opened, my husband did some work on the building when it was acquired. He liked the owner and how passionately he talked about getting fresh fish in land-locked Nebraska and their affiliation with Tokyo Sushi, (our favorite restaurant in omaha!) This excitement has been dulled now, as we would rather make the drive down to the Old Market at Tokyo Sushi for a more predictable and consistent quality.
We only ordered three sushi rolls, they were alright, except for one. It was almost entirely rice and cucumber, a sliver of old oxidizing avocado in each, and some shrimp.
The cherry on top, when I put my card in the book it fell out because the pocket was broken.
We left AYCE still hungry and unsatisfied, but unwilling to eat disapointing food. Such a let down.
EDIT: Can’t believe I forgot this. Every single chopstick given to us was splintered. I wish I took a picture. Massive splitners that couldn’t be fixed by running the wood against each other. Incredibly cheap. Chopsticks are inexpensive already.
My boyfriend and I go here almost every week. We love sushi and this is a good price. Plus it was where we had our first date. So it means something to us.
The last few months, service has been iffy at best.
Tonight however, was the worst visit. The tempura mushrooms had so much breading on them I was peeling it all off. We placed our sushi order with our appetizer order. And normally, the sushi arrived before we even finish the starters. Today though, every table in the restaurant got their sushi. Even people who were sat after us. We had to remind the server we were still waiting on half our order. My boyfriend’s sushi arrived. And he was half way done with his by the time my only order of rolls arrived. And I usually get this roll. But tonight it was swimming in fryer oil on the dish.
When I asked for the check, I attempted to tell the server it wasn’t very good food tonight and he walked away while I was still talking. We sat and sat and sat. Still no check. I had my card out and ready. The server sees this and without giving me the check, just says, “this card?”, grabs it and walks away still, without providing me my check first. Who does that??
I’d also like to add that there are numerous reviews all with the same issues and they’re fairly recent. It’s obvious the restaurant owner and management either don’t see these reviews. Or don’t care to have a well run business enough to address these problems.
It’s time to find a new sushi place.
I took my 6-year old grandson and his 7-year old cousin with me for dinner. We chose the all-you-can-eat option. I ordered some rolls for the boys. There were parts that they didn’t like, and they picked out the cucumbers and avocados. I put the things they picked out into a small bowl and put it at the edge of the table to be taken away. A server came by and pointed at the bowl, shaking his head and said you’re wasting food. I said they’re children, and there were parts they didn’t like, but they ate the rest. He said it doesn’t matter, you’re still wasting food and I’m gonna have to go find out how much you owe. He was unkind and condescending. I ordered more food, things other than sushi rolls that I thought the boys would like. They ate a lot of it, but got full. So with the threat over my head of having to pay for more wasted food, I asked for a box. A server brought the box and said there’s a $5 charge for the box. I said okay, I don’t need the box, I’ll just throw the food in my purse. She said no, you paid for all you can eat, it doesn’t mean you get to take it with you. I said okay, so how much is it if I don’t take the food. She said, oh, you mean because of the wasted food policy? Yes. Mmmm, probably like $3. My grandson said he wanted to eat the left over chicken later so I paid the $5. But the bowl of cucumbers and avocados I wrapped in napkins and put in my purse. The food was mediocre at best.
It started off good, we were asked if we wanted the buffetand we said yes because that’s what’s printed outside above the door that lured us there.
They were quite busy, people cleaning and delivering nonstop and working quite hard the entire time. So this was definitely a showcase for how they do under pressure.
We placed our first order which was basically a full order, so appetizers, salad, soup and sushi, water and bobas (were used to non buffet style eating).
A short wait, not super long but not fast, and a person comes by with a boat, I look at it searching for my food…. After a bit I realize it’s not really what we ordered and he came back asked if that’s what we ordered and I said nope, he took it to the table next to us.
Then 5m and our soups come and bobas and then water.
A other 5m and we get a boat with what looks like some of the items we ordered. But I start looking for one or two items and I don’t see them. I also didnt get the salad.
Anyway, not wanting to waste and it being mostly food we like and what we ordered we started to eat.
Finished most all of it but the wife and kid only ate like half of their stuff..so I ate their food too.
The picture here, the roll closest to the camera on the boat was the bad one with the peanutty looking sauce on it. (Not peanut sauce..) The fried veggies my wife order she ate maybe 3/4 of. We ate basically the entire boat excpet 8 bites about.
Anyway, wishing I had more meat than rice at that point I ordered an ice cream for the kid and short ribs for the wife and a sashimi for myself.
Then they brought the bill, which is fine, we were nearly done.
I then specifically googled nigiri vs sashimi because I just wanted meat.. out came a salmon on rice(nigiri)…I waited to pay until we got my wife and kids food, as my wife became suspicious they may stop delivering to us if I pay.
We finished all that and then I ordered 2 nigiri salmon, because I wanted some meat and apparently sashimi wasn’t just meat according to these guys.
We wait for like 15 minutes, the waiter says it’s coming…I figure since he said it’s coming i suppose I can pay. The more Asian looking lady came over to take the bill. We sat for a while more, still no delivery. My wife asked me what time we should leave and I waited another 5 and left.
For $95… I could get better service, the food I actually ordered, better food, and better atmosphere. I see no reason to return.
If I do come back I won’t get the buffet, that’s definitely not a good idea.
Nothing from the menu was special, normal/ get anywhere sushi.
If you come here, maybe just order the food you want… Because the buffet is a gamble.
If I were to pick something unique I tasted here, memorable and positive I’d say the salmon nigiri I “received” was good, the salmon skin roll was decent, the milk bobas were on par, the miso didn’t have tofu chunks and the seaweed was tiny amounts probably just packet miso. The short ribs were good.
The negatives were: wrong items, missing items, failure to deliver items before and after payment, one roll tasted not so good and nobody wanted to eat it. Price to value I’d rather eat at other non buffet sushi places.
This is a solid 3 star place.
My main complaint and the reason I won’t come back is because the last time and tonight I got embarrassed over the food I was ordering. Last time, a male employee came over while my husband was in the bathroom to shame me for the amount of rolls and wouldn’t leave until I took at least one off. Tonight, my husband’s rolls came out, but my nigiri & hand rolls hadn’t. A male employee came over and to my face was laughing and triple checking I actually wanted the sushi I ordered with the “you know we charge for anything uneaten right?” I felt humiliated and embarrassed, but confirmed that yes, I came here to get a bunch of nigiri as an entree so could I please get it. I finally get it and they’re the size of bigger chicken nuggets so whatever.
Overall, the other people really aren’t bad, the food isn’t bad, and the building is very clean, but I don’t want to eat somewhere where I’m going to be made fun of for eating at. If you don’t want people to eat a ton of nigiri/sashimi to keep costs down then don’t do it as an all you can eat item.
If you want all you can eat sushi, go to Tokyo Sushi downtown. If you want fantastic sushi with other Asian dishes as options, I’d HIGHLY recommend Ahi Sushi Ramen and Grill on 125th and Center. Do not recommend this restaurant.
it is hands down the Best All You Can Eat Sushi spot in town!
All the food, fish, shrimp, octopus, etc taste fresh as if it was next to the ocean!
I have been there for Lunch and Dinner and the taste has been consistent.
If you don’t agree, just go and try for yourself !
Thank you for opening this spot !!!
Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the service. Upon arrival, I let the hostess know it was our first time dining there. She was friendly and welcoming as she seated us. But once our server realized we were interested in the all-you-can-eat menu, their attitude shifted—they appeared irritated and less attentive.
We began with a small order to sample different items since we weren’t sure what we’d like. From there, the experience became impersonal; most of our food was delivered by a robot, and we didn’t see a staff member for quite some time. Eventually, a different server—whom we hadn’t seen before—refilled our drinks toward the end of the meal. When we handed over another menu to place a second order, they again seemed annoyed. That order was also delivered by the robot, and we were never thanked or acknowledged as we finished and paid.
Overall, the experience felt cold and disconnected—something I’ve never encountered at a sushi restaurant before. For an all-you-can-eat place, it was fairly standard in terms of food, but the lackluster service makes it a spot I’d only consider for a quick, no-frills meal rather than a quality dining experience.
