CARRY-OUT REVIEW. Ordered take out for lunch Tuesday—called in to place my to-go order and arrived early but they were almost finished with my food so I didn’t wait long. Restaurant is fairly small and surprisingly no one was eating there.
Food was mediocre—California Roll and Eel Roll were okay, nothing special. Was not a fan of the Gyoza, it was overloaded with scallion. Pricing was quite reasonable here!

After living in Japan for two years, Aji-Nippon is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants I have been to in DMV. They’re a family owned business in a great area. Their flavors and ingredients are true to what you would find in Japan, with rich soups, flame grilled yakitori, warm rice, fresh sashimi, savory meats, and memorable sauces that take me back to being in Japan.
I first visited this restaurant a year ago, and their quality has always been top notch. That’s because they’re not just serving Asian style food, the owners are cooking and feeding customers with authentic Japanese cozy homestyle cooking. Let the photos do the talking.

Honestly, the value for food is not great. quality of the food seems low for the price. the amount served is also very very small. Basically, you are paying adult meal price for kid’s meals. I think they should either improve the quality or quantity. otherwise, I would skip and go to other Japanese restaurants nearby; at least quality is better. There were also barely any people here during a weekend evening. Could be good if you want a quite restaurant, but I found the deep silence very awkward.

I ordered the sashimi appetizer ($12 for 7 pieces) and the portion was tiny. like the size of your thumb knuckle. Taste was a let down, it didn’t taste fresh and had the notably fishy taste to it that you don’t get a higher quality restaurants. The mushroom miso soup was good but overpriced, and my friends also thought the restaurant was just okay. No music and we were the only ones dining so it was a bit awkward. Water tasted interesting… Wanted to support a small shop but I wouldn’t go here again 🙁

Ordered sushi to go. 5 kinds. Paid 20% tip on the order (a total of 70 for carryout). And for all of that got just ONE small container of soy sauce that was half full. After my kid delivered that I called to complain. The lady who had taken the order didn’t apologize , she just said I should have requested extra soy sauce. Really?! For 5 items, it doesn’t feel like I should expect less than 3 containers of soy sauce. Nice sushi but they just lost me as a client.

Extremely slow service. There were only two staff members working, and they were completely overwhelmed, making the wait for food far too long. The portions are also quite small and overpriced—the rolls are tiny. Not a great value for the money; I won’t be returning.

I would give zero star if I could. For $47 take-out, the portion is barely suitable for 2 people.
The quality of food is pretty bad. I ordered deluxe sushi that came with 10 nigiris but notably tuna was losing its color and salmon was very dry. Rolls were done very amateur. See the picture.
I do not recommend this place.

I love coming to Aji Nippon when I feel like eating sushi. It is run by the nicest couple and they are always so welcoming when me and my family come in. The atmosphere is great, everything is very clean, and the food is delicious! I would absolutely recommend coming here if you are in the mood for sushi and want to support a small business at the same time!

Aji Nippon has been open over 30 years. I grew up eating their food as what I know to be Japanese cuisine and having been to Japan and back, I am glad that it was. The decor, the music, the attention to detail in their food. Amazingly brings a real piece of Japan to a random little spot in Bethesda.

Something tells me you are wondering where to get amazing sushi in Bethesda. Park at cvs or across the street and go find this charming mom n pop no frills amazing sushi freshness. I’m from brooklyn and i love Japanese. The entrees are also great – bulgogi esp – and the broccoli carrot appetizer omg. A+ thank you to the chef!
