The food was great and there were bigger portions than I expected. I ended up taking a pan friend bun home as well and it was delicious. I even came back and got the pork friend rice, then smoked chicken later the same week. Overall the prices are reasonable and the flavor is great. I plan to come here very often in the future to try even more of the menu!

A perennial favorite. This Northern Virginia branch of the small chain prepares and serves excellent northern Chinese noodle soups, rice dishes, dumplings, buns, snacks, and bubble tea in a simple and clean dining room. The food is authentic and tasty. The service is efficient and friendly without being intrusive. The prices represent great value for the food (as the numerous Washingtonian Magazine awards for “Cheap Eats” attests).
My only complaint is that I moved out of the area and can’t frequent this establishment as much as I had when my family and I lived in the area. A&J is definitely on my “must visit” list when I’m back in the area. The Rockville location is also good but for some reason, the staff in Annandale are friendlier and more welcoming.
Oh, one more thing – they used to be a cash only place, but now accept credit cards and Venmo (but not American Express).

One of my favorite taiwanese restaurant up to date. The braised pork bowl cost about $6 and their side dishes are amazingggg! The pork ears, the specialty noodles… chef kiss! The cucumber side dish is crispy, spicy, a bit sweet and cold.. PERFECT! We got two because it was so good.
The beef noodles that we got was so good. The beef was so soft and melt in your mouth. Noodles are chewy and soup are a bit spicy!
The crispy pork was also delicious. Everything was so good I don’t even know how to describe it anymore.
Staff are friendly but a bit harder to ask for things as you have to repeat it a few times.
Restaurant is small enough that it’s giving family restaurant vibes. Not a lot of tables available so just a heads up that it might be busy during lunch time or dinner time!

I have been coming here on a monthly basis for over 5 years now; have tried tons of new and upcoming Chinese restaurant and nothing compares to them. It’s a sublime experience with friend but direct servers, high quality ingredients and modest price.
At this point I would have tired probably everything in the menu and they are all quality authentic food.
This restaurant take pride in their heritage, please be respectful when visit.

Really fast service. Good price. I wish I could say we loved the food, but can’t. There were 5 of us. We had to throw away a good bit of our food. The noodles looked so unappetizing I have to admit I just took a pass. Nobody who tried them was impressed. Scallion pancakes were thick, heavy and also mostly uneaten. It was takeout so hopefully a bit better if you eat there… braised pork was good, and well priced/proportioned.

Great service, great food, prices are good too. We had braised beef noodles soup, pork chop rice, wonton soup. Braised beef is very rich on the broth, meat is tender and well-seasoned. Kids love the wonton soup. We came in the early afternoon, had a great experience here.

We love A&Js and have been enjoying this NoVA gem for a couple of years. The restaurant may be small but the menu is big with choices and full of wonderful flavors.
The intimacy of A&Js is brilliant and the service friendly and professional. While we often request personal favorites we also look forward to trying new recipes provided by an exceptional chef and kitchen staff.

Met up with some friends for dinner here as it’s been on my list for a while.
Interestingly, they gave me the menu and said to mark off what we wanted. Everything was pretty easy to figure out aside from the “what kind of noodles?” They asked thick or thin, but when I tried to get an understanding of what the sizes were there was a bit of miscommunication.
What’s nice is the menu is pretty reasonably priced and there’s a lot of variation. The uniquely shaped, pan-fried pork dumplings were really good. I had thin noodles with shredded pork and pickled vegetable soup, which was really nice. The noodles have a great chew to them. I also highly recommend the Dan Dan noodles and the Chinese fried chicken. Honestly everything we got was delicious. The scallion pancake is really simple but I loved how chewy it was on the inside. I think we ended up with about 9 times and with tax+tip, I think we were at $100 for four people and a lot of leftovers to take home.
Planning to head back soon.

The beef noodle soup, braised pork over rice, and Peking beef wrap are my favorites here. Most of the dishes are small plates. The price was reasonable. A great place for either brunch or dinner.
The seating area was not huge, but we did not have problems finding a seat most of the time.

I really enjoyed the noodles at the restaurant and highly recommend them. The dandan noodles were only about $9 and the very filling beef noodle soup came out to about $15. The scallion pancake and dumplings were also delish!
Just be aware that the xiao long bao on the menu are more so very moist steam dumplings and don’t have soup in them.
I’m excited to go back very soon to try out their rice dishes and other recommended dishes
