Agave Uptown is a standout Mexican restaurant on a corner in Oakland. The food was incredible—rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. Service was excellent: the staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The cocktails were solid and complemented the overall experience nicely. Great atmosphere, great hospitality—highly recommended.
Update (February 2026): Came back for the seafood fajitas—disappointing. Big plate with lots of veggies and enough seafood, but the salmon came with skin on (we had to remove it). Worst part: only three small corn tortillas for a massive fajita platter—felt stingy and out of balance. This visit alone would’ve stopped us from returning. Biggest issue here: inconsistency.

This restaurant was such a treat! Our waiter was top tier, had the best attitude and his attention to detail was superb! We shared some items and everything was DELICIOUS. Loved the decor. We had many drinks therefore our bill was a little high, but great prices overall.

So glad we called because the hours on Google for Sundays were wrong. They were definitely open at 1pm Sunday. Our family shared the mixed ceviche and half dozen molotes on the recommendation of the server. Both were superb! My 2 fish tacos were delicious and the rice and beans were perfectly seasoned. The enchiladas were delicious as was the coloradito chicken plate. They had Christmas drink specials, so we’ll have to come back to try that sometime!

A gastronomic gem of Oakland, Agave Uptown was the perfect place for a work lunch. The citrus infused water lets you know that this place pays attention to detail. I got a mango cocktail that was really refreshing.
For my lunch I ordered the coastal bowl with sea bass. The sea bass was perfectly cooked, tender, flaky, and the chef did not overpower the dish with salt. The natural flavors of the seasonal vegetables and the sea bass itself shined.
And that is truly what is so great about the food here: flavor comes from the complex combination of ingredients and not from salt or spices masking the ingredients.
The quality of food here is top-notch, complemented with attentive, friendly service, set with comforting, rustic ambiance. Highly recommend.

Such a good restaurant. The service is great, the food is delicious and the salsas are top notch. Whenever I am in downtown Oakland I like to stop by and eat here. They also have a solid Happy hour.

I visited Agave Uptown for a late lunch and was impressed with the tacos [1-shrimp, 1- salmon]. Both the guacamole and cocktails were excellent. Staff was attentive and professional.

Girls night out before a show at the Paramount. Can’t beat the location a block away.
Service was stellar: attentive and fast, our server made sure we make it to our show.
The standout dishes are the carnitas mole. These guys really know their fried pork, so flavorful and crispy around the edges. Save room for dessert, the Bunuelos with their dulce ice cream is so unique.

Good place to try a sit down Mexican place, with plenty of dishes beyond tacos and burritos. Tried mole for the first time which was well done and brought a different type of flavour. Their carnitas were also really good, soft and melting in your mouth

The drinks were good, but unfortunately my albóndigas soup was missed and I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for it. On top of that, my friend asked for extra onions, which arrived about 20 minutes later, after he had already finished eating. Given the extended wait and the missed item, I was expecting at least some chips while waiting or for an item to be comped.
