This is a genuine review from someone who’s tried different African restaurants all over the U.S.
The egusi had an odd sweet, perfume-like flavor, and there were fine bones in almost every bite — it honestly made me nervous to eat because I felt like I could choke.
The spinach soup was decent and probably the best thing on their menu, but it was extremely oily from the meat. It felt more like oily broth than soup.
I was also surprised that the fufu is sold separately instead of being included with the dishes, which is unusual compared to most African restaurants I’ve visited.
I only tried this place to avoid a long drive to Iowa City, but after this experience, I think that drive might actually be worth it for better quality.
If you’re new to African food, you might enjoy it, but if you’ve had truly authentic, well-prepared dishes before, you’ll probably find this spot to be mid.

Came here while on a little road trip and it was the best food choice I’ve ever made. I had the fufu, cassava leaves and tomato chicken and my wife had the beef kebabs with plantain. We ended up switching meals somewhat because I was obsessed with the smoked beef and she was obsessed with the chicken, both were incredible. I have to compliment the spicy sauce too, it was ghost peppers (I think) which is my favorite. Extremely spicy which is what I can never find! I mixed it with the cassava leaves and ate with fufu. There was dance music playing, and the hostess/chef was very kind albeit busy. We will definitely come back if in town again.

I have never in my life had such horrible African food. These people sent me two containers of oil! The egusi soup was literally just oil and three pieces of meat it was less than half egusi and the cassava and beans was basically beans and oil it was horrible! My family could not eat this due to the fact it was mostly oil!

I visited this restaurant today and Mimi and Deepy were just the nicest people, they treated me very kind and the food was so delicious I would definitely recommend eating here. I had the spinach beef w/ fufu and also Samoussa for an appetizer!

Tasty! My husband and I ordered 3 dishes to try and we have plenty of leftovers. They give good portions! Everything is seasoned really well, and if you don’t like things spicy, just don’t use the red pepper sauce (we do though!). I’d never tried fufu or kwanga before and they were awesome starchy sides for the flavorful food. If there are any others out there that haven’t had it, fufu is like a soft doughy texture that you can scoop the stews with, and kwanga is like a harder chewy bready texture (kind of like mochi? but more bready). The whole tilapia was nicely seasoned, the spinach beef was like pot roast beef, and the pork was very smokey and toothsome (in a good way).

I’ve seen so many videos of fufu and have wanted to try it for so long! THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The beef and spinach with fufu was amazing! I’ve never had African food before this and I wasn’t displeased with any of the food! The malt drink, definitely different but the food?! 10/10. I will be coming back!

Very, very rude people. My first time eating me and my friend went to eat here we both got food poisoning. So I called to tell them and the man answered the phone and cursed me out. I have my proof of the ER visit and everything. 0/10 don’t recommend. If I could rate it a 0 I would. Sorry, not sorry. It takes respect to get respect and he was very disrespectful.

We will be back to try more food. Our favorites were the half a chicken with potatoes and the beef with spinach. Great flavors and tender meat.
