White-tablecloth eatery dishing out traditional dishes of Afghanistan in an unassuming location.

Oh my goodness… We just found our FAVORITE Afghan restaurant in the Greater Washington DC area! Don’t let the name fool you: Afghan Kabob has a much more varied and subtle menu than just kabobs… though those are choice and juicy, especially the lamb. In short, this was the best Mantu, Aushak, and Kadu (Pumpkin) I have ever had, anywhere… hands down. Run, don’t walk, to Afghan Kabob Restaurant in Springfield, Virginia.

Loved the food! Dumplings were flavorful, eggplant appetizer was delicious. We got bread stuffed with leak and potato which was also tasty. The sweet carrot pilau with lamb was fabulous and came with a great spinach on the side. The mixed grill kabobs were also great… tender chicken and well seasoned ground beef. Plenty of tasty bread was served alongside our dishes so we left very full! The only thing I would not order again was a side dish that seemed to be lentil and meatball. The lentil was tasty but the meatball was not to my liking. Overall, I hope to be back soon!

We ordered take out from here and the food was amazing! Both the chicken breast and chicken thigh kabobs were so juicy and flavorful. The naan is probably some of the best naan I’ve ever tasted. The portions are also huge and you’ll probably have leftovers too!

This place has new owners!! Since they took over, the food has been amazing. The chicken and lamb kabobs are so tender! You won’t go wrong. The restaurant is clean, the servers are nice. It definitely hits that kabob craving. In an area where there’s a kabob restaurant on every corner, this place really comes out on top. The quality is consistent, as well. And it’s kid approved! Don’t get scared away by the outside appearance, the inside is clean and decorated nicely. But most importantly the food is delicious. The bread is my favorite. It really is decadent. You can tell everything is made fresh as it takes some time to come out. You aren’t getting reheated or premade food.

This has to be the best Afghan restaurant in Northern Va period. Excellent food that just fills you up with such satisfaction. Been here several times and I feel this place is a best kept secret. I highly recommend the kabobs, lamb dish, and their spinach side dish which is amazing. They also serve a very yummy Afghan style tea that goes great with the food. You can always smell the spices and delicious food coming from the kitchen while surrounded with a warm, comfortable vibe. You must come here people!!

The lunch was really enjoyable. Everything tasted fresh, the spices were just right, and the portions were filling without being heavy. It felt like a well-made, home-style meal. The lunch was fresh, tasty, and satisfying. The flavors were balanced, the portions were good, and everything was served warm. A nice, enjoyable meal overall.

Randomly stopped by and was pleasantly surprised. This place is spacious and very clean. The server was super friendly. But, on to the most important thing, the food.
The deluxe kebab was amazing. Four pieces of chicken, four lamb and one beef kebab. The beef was very creamy. The chicken was moist. The lamb was rich with flavor. They give you plenty of chutneys, some creamy and some spicy so i love the variety. Unless you are hungry, the deluxe kebab is sharable.
Definitely coming to try more.

The kabobs were good; however, the rice was not fresh and tasted like it had been cooked at least a few days earlier. We ordered five kabobs last weekend

The food is so good. The bread is made fresh and the spinach and chick pea side with the chicken kabobs are absolutely delicious! There’s a garlic mayo sauce they serve with the kabobs and it is fabulous! Will definitely be back!

I went in with my family, and we all ordered the lamb chops platter be mindful, it’s $26 per platter. The menu description says it comes with qabuli rice, chickpeas, and salad. However, the guy at the front desk came by and told me that the chickpeas would be charged separately, and so would the salad.
When the food came out, it only had plain brown rice with three chops that’s all, for $26. I asked him to bring the chickpeas as mentioned in the description, and he brought a small bowl, saying it was enough for everyone. But when I went to pay, he charged me an extra $6 for the chickpeas.
That’s not all when I looked at my receipt later, there was also a $20 “service charge” listed as an item which in result was getting taxed ant end even. This is outrageous. Never coming back
