We were welcomed as soon as we came in and were allowed to sit anywhere we wanted. It felt like a real neighborhood gathering place with many regulars around the bar cheering for Sunday football. We grabbed a high top on the bar side of the restaurant and the bartender was able to help us right away. I got a cup of clam chowder to start, and it was so good I finished it before I could take a picture! If you’re a pescatarian like me you can have this because there’s no bacon in it—score!! Instead, it’s loaded with clams and tons of fresh dill for flavor! Seriously one of the best chowders I’ve ever had and who would expect it from a speakeasy?
The fish and chips portion is super generous for the price and the beer batter holds up nicely. Hand-cut, perfectly salted fries were great touch. Food was outstanding and we can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu!
P.S. Something to remember when you get the bill in case you’re confused is that they charge a flat $2 fee for using a credit card. Not a huge amount by any means, but if you’re looking to save a few bucks you can bring cash!
We ordered some draft drinks and an app. We chose their award winning poutine. It was tasty!
Fairly limited menu, but quality is very consistent. Service was spotty at first but is fine now. Always friendly.
The maple-bacon appetizer is wonderful. Excellent onion rings, too, as well as soups. Fish & chips was high quality, obviously fresh, and very crisp.
We are not big drinkers, but the bar is always busy and the beer selection has a nice variety.
Only reason to downgrade a bit is, it’s very noisy when the bar is crowded.Could use acoustic tile ceilings or sound-deadening wall hangings. But that has nothing to do with the food and service.
It pretty much went down hill from there. We both ordered soup and placed our order for the entrees. About a half hour the entrees arrived and the waitress seemed overwhelmed do to a short staff. When she finally came back we ask about our soup, she forget, so we canceled the soup. My wife’s entrée had rice that was still a little hard, the spices on her meal were overwhelming, she didn’t finish it, had an upset stomach all night. I order a steak, MEDIUM, it came rare, I ate it because it was tender, the back potato was over cooked and the broccoli had a ton of salt and pepper on it, I had 2 pieces. I don’t think cook had any taste buds left.
Here is the biggest kick in stomach, please take note:
They brought us the bill, I looked it over, I gave the credit card to the waitress, when she came back, it was $7 higher than it was. I gave the waitress cash for the tip. I went to the manager ask why, he showed me the statement at the bottom of the slip regard pay the processing fee being added to the bill, he got a little snotty. I told him that was the cost of doing business, he did not seem to agree me. WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO Adeline’s Speakeasy Kitchen Bar !
