From the food, the drinks, to the decor, and the atmosphere, everything has been so well thought out; not one detail spared. The service was phenomenal; you can really sense the passion that the wait staff and managment has for this place. They truly care for each aspect whether it’s their vivid descriptions of the food or how the customer is enjoying their time; you can feel how much love they have for Adelaide.
Each dish and cocktail showcases the care and creativeness that the chefs and the mixologist have tirelessly worked for. From unique and satisfying textures in the salad to bold flavors in the pork special, everything about it was truly a wonderful experience.
Obviously I couldn’t help myself and ordered nearly everything on the menu. The portions were perfect to enjoy yourself or share with others. My friends and I finished all of our plates satisfied, but with room for dessert of course.
You can see the thought that went into planning not only the food menu but the drink menu as well. My friends and I loved the espresso martinis and the white grape sours. If there was something you wanted that wasn’t on the menu, the bartender is extremely well trained and able to make whatever you request.
I had an awesome evening with my friends, and it was a beautiful spot to catch up, eat amazing food, and enjoy an elegant atmosphere. I will definitely be back!
After getting settled, we ordered both a bottle of still and sparkling water, unfortunately we received two sparkling waters (which was fine but a little annoying nonetheless) – would recommend that the sparkling/still were visually differentiated to prevent this mishap in the future. We ordered two of the Addy Spritz’s and a glass of red wine – both of which were pleasant, although $18-20 is rather high for a cocktail in New Jersey. The cocktails seemed to be very delicately curated and balanced, which made it a bit easier to overlook the steep price.
For appetizers, we ordered the focaccia, the sweet potato special, and the broccolini special. The focaccia was good and the tomato butter that came with it was even better, but I don’t know if I would pay $10 for it again if I went back. The broccolini was very impressive (perhaps even my favorite dish of the night). The pairing of the earthy broccolini with the sharp chili oil made for a wonderful combination. The sweet potato special was also quite nice with the butterscotch and caramel sauce being an inventive addition to the plate.
For mains, our group ordered the special duck pasta, the risotto, the ravioli, and the pork cutlet. The duck pasta was cooked perfectly al-dente and very rich. It was a very well balanced dish although it did get a bit monotonous towards the last few bites. The risotto was also very well done, the addition of lemon elevated the dish to another level. The pork cutlet definitely stood out among the main courses. The cutlet was beautifully cooked while still maintaining its moisture and the freshness of the endive and persimmon paired perfectly with the crunchy oily breading on the pork. I would definitely recommend the pork cutlet to any newcomers. The ravioli was good but rather underwhelming – it was a pleasant cheese ravioli in buffalo sauce but was rather lackluster compared to the other main courses.
We then decided to get dessert. However, when the dessert menu arrived we were shocked to see only two desserts (accompanied by a list of thirteen different spirits). We decided to order one of each – the focaccia banana bread pudding and the blood orange sorbet. The focaccia banana bread was pleasant but rather boring when compared to the rest of the meal. The banana flavor didn’t really come through and the only thing that saved the dish was the chantilly cream. The blood orange sorbet was extremely disappointing. While it looked promising on the menu, the texture of the dish was more akin to a granita than a sorbet. The desserts were OK — not great, not bad, just OK. I wish that there were more offerings on the dessert menu as being presented with two uninspired desserts was a rather disappointing end to such a pleasant meal.
Overall, the experience was extremely enjoyable. Although there were a few hiccups and places for improvement, Adelaide is definitely a place to visit if you’re interested in trying something new, fresh, and creative.
Chef Jack and his crew have created a unique and incredible menu. From the delicious beets to the fresh fish to the homemade sorbet – I was honestly wowed! I was also especially impressed with how knowledgeable and accommodating they were with allergies. They took the time to explain ingredients and make sure everything was safe, which made dining there feel comfortable and stress-free.
Adelaide has quickly become a go-to restaurant for us – I highly recommend!
