Reviews
The food tastes good enough, but portions are small for the price. On my last visit, I found a giant hair literally woven into my first bite. I get that these things happen, but it didn’t help the overall underwhelming experience.
That said, I do think the space itself has potential, so I might give it another shot in the future and hope for a better experience.
and hibiscus simple syrup. My son needs to know a good date spot, to appreciate the arts, to believe in the best and so we wanted to share it with him. He also loves culinary experiences and will be inspired to recreate foods and drinks.
Our waitress acted like we were a huge inconvenience. She completely ignored an individual in our party. The first couple times, we thought maybe it was just loud. But our server consistently ignored this one person’s orders, and then wouldn’t even hand their orders to them-she’d hand their items to the individual next to them.
Not only was our waitress rude, she wasn’t even good at her job. She kept getting orders wrong. At one point, a member of the kitchen staff came out with something that wasn’t ordered. When no one claimed the item he rolled his eyes and said “great, we’ll just figure it out” as he walked back to the kitchen. Then he sent the server out with the item to ask us again, and again, no one ordered that, which we told her. She got annoyed with us for her own mistake and mumbled her way back to the kitchen.
At the end of the evening, we were eager to leave. Unfortunately, our server couldn’t get our checks right, even after asking everyone what they ordered. She had to re-do some of the checks several times just to get the orders right.
I was excited to finally try Ace Gillette’s after hearing such great things. Unfortunately, I will not be returning after one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Definitely not worth the nearly $19 cocktail to be treated so poorly over their own incompetence.
P.S. the service was also extremely slow!
We sat down shortly thereafter. It took about 10 minutes for our server to come to the table. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The appetizer came out 5 or so minutes later, but almost 30 minutes later, we still did not have our drinks. The server assured us they were on the way, and took our dinner order. The drinks finally arrived, just before dinner was served.
It was a pretty disappointing experience, especially for just 3 people who each only had 1 cocktail. The food was good (which is the only reason I am giving the review two stars instead of one), but the service was extremely poor, enough so that I would not go back again.
The food was great as well. We started with the Deviled Eggs for our app and had Supper Club Tray and Caprese Grilled Cheese for our meals.
The drinks were great as well. The bartender knows how to make a good drink!
We arrived 2 minutes before our 45 minute wait was completed, and she checked our ID’s. This part is on me, I just became a Colorado resident and forgot my paper ID at home, but had my hole punched, otherwise valid out of state ID. Hostess began to lecture and embarrass me in front of my friends and other patrons even after me acknowledging I know this is not acceptable. I would never give her a hard time if she turned me away but I didn’t deserve her judgment. Not like I was pleading with her to let me in.
She brings us to our table and I thank her profusely. But the table she brought us to had a group at it and so we had to stand in the middle of the venue waiting for them to move and the table to be cleaned. No worries to us. But once we sat, it took a very long time to get service.
Once we got menus and water, we were ready to order when she came back. We put our order in, and 30 minutes later we still had nothing. I caught the server’s eye and when she asked if we needed something I said “our drinks?” She acted surprised and almost inconvenienced I’d ask. Said the bar is taking a long time. But according to other reviews, this a common thing. This does not denote high-end or worthy of the price. And it would be fine if she had just checked in to let us know that instead of looking at me like I had 2 heads for asking.
Not two minutes later, our food comes. Which is part of the highlight by the way. Food was adequately portioned and warm, delicious, and flavorful. Finally, 40 minutes into our stay, we got our drinks after we were well into our food. She did half-apologize and said she would take our drink order in a few minutes to try and mitigate the wait time for the next round. She never came back except at the end to offer us some more water and scurried away. The drinks were good and had beautiful presentation. I would have liked to try more than one.
She was clearly in over her head with the amount of tables she had. Seems to me like it’s a staffing issue and she’s probably fed up trying to explain the same thing every night. But it also doesn’t take much to check in with a table as you’re passing by even if you have 20 covers at once, or even preempt them when they sit down. It makes all the difference in a service industry role.
A last minute add, but I was very clear two of us had a serious nut allergy in the group. When she offered us more water at the end, she pointed to the crackers and said “how did you like the gluten free crackers?” To which my eyebrow raised in confusion. So I corrected her to say “we have nut allergies, not gluten.” Could be a slip of the tongue, but concerning nonetheless and makes me feel that she had too much going on to remember a crucial detail.
But it doesn’t end there. They don’t have a direct line so you have to call the hotel they’re a part of. Same monotone attitude that makes me feel like these people just do not like their jobs. I had left a valuable Christmas gift on our table and was told to email a manager. It is time sensitive as it’s for Christmas, and no one seemed interested in figuring out what has happened to my gift. No sense of urgency, no real compassion. I called again today to ask if there were cameras, but none that pointed where we were sitting apparently, just one at the bar. If I were on the other side of this situation, as I have been many times, I would have expressed my concern for them and said let me talk to some people to figure it out. That we would take it seriously and ask around. All I got was “no one returned anything to lost and found” and “yeah, sorry.”
Bad taste in my mouth after this and won’t be on my list of places to go in Fort Collins. I felt my only option was to post this honest review, which is sad.
