Abyssinia location on 45th Street has very professional staff members that prepare the food with care. They have plenty of room for big parties. I like how they have a bar in the front of the business and a upstairs area that is their dining area that is easier to talk in. Upstairs area is not in this reviews pictures. Maybe update new time. I’ll definitely be back. Keep up the good work

I got Meat Combo and the Kurt Tibs and the meat was so tender and seasoned well (the veggies were seasoned well too). It was the first time me and my friends tried Ethiopian food and we can’t wait to have it again! I just wish the Baklava was bigger for the price it is. We spent a total of ~$80 for 2 meat combos one order of Kurt Tibs and 2 orders of the baklava. There was definitely more than enough to share with 4 people.

Probably the best Ethiopian joint in the city. Don’t sleep on it. My favorite two dishes; the Abyssiania platter and the breakfast special, with scrambled eggs, beef and ful.

Went here for a late night dinner since my friend had never had Ethiopian food before and wanted to try it. This is a neighborhood restaurant with 2 bars and a dining room. Both bars were busy. The downstairs bar was updated, but the dining room was pretty nondescript and empty.

I confirmed the kitchen was still open and we sat in the dining room. The server for the dining room was helping out in the downstairs bar so it took a while for him to take our order. My friend had to go to the bar and order some drinks in order to get his attention. When he came in to deliver our drinks and take our order he only brought my friend’s drink (spicy margarita). My drink (mango tequila sunrise) took a while to come out so he comped it.

We waited for quite some time before he came in again to check on us. He told us he went to check on our food and the kitchen was in the process of closing and hadn’t made our food. I was waiting for him to say just kidding the food is coming out, but he never did. He had to go work it out with the kitchen.

Our food finally came out and it was tasty. I ordered the veggie combo and he had the Abyssinia 1 and meat combo together. My friend really enjoyed the beef tartare. He got it cooked medium. I enjoyed the veggie combo.

I suggest going to the bar and ordering food there if you go late night. That’s what I’d do if I go back.

This is my go to Ethiopian restaurant and I would give it a five. I usually get The Meat Combo, but I tried Abyssinia s number 1 with the Kitfo. First time having Kitfo not my thing and it was oily. The greens were not that great today also and the beef and onions were not great.

I moved to Philly in May 2024 and Abyssinia was one of the first restaurants I visited. My girlfriend and I love Ethiopian food and needed to find a restaurant STAT. It is by far one of the best places Philly has to offer. It is such a unique and wonderful experience and the food is AMAZING. If you are looking for great Ethiopian cuisine and want to support a local business, this is the place to go. The bar is also a great place to visit if you need a good cold beer! We’ve been at least 5 times and it’s always been incredible.

I don’t drink anymore, but I love the quirkiness of this restaurant/bar building and if I did drink still, this place would be a really awesome stop.

Solely based on the food, it’s decent. The injera was too dry and thin for me, but everything tasted good. Service was good, but the place is really worn down.

I probably won’t come back, mostly because the food was just so so.

Last Friday, I went to Abyssinia and I LOVED IT. My 4 friends and I ordered 6 entrees (3 non vegetarian & 3 vegetarian) on a platter. We had the best social time finishing the HUGE platter; the portions are insanely good! All of us 5 were full by the end. However, I cannot emphasize how delicious every single bite was. The meat was so tender!! I will be back!! And prices were relatively good too for what you get!
