Reviews
Take out from Aburi Sushi Restauant in Winnipeg, MB. Lovely flavour combinations. Quality ingredients. Enjoyed it. The aburi sushi was not torched, or seared, there is no imitation crab nor avocado. I saw a photo online and it did not look seared/torched. Hmmm. Well, unable to completely provide a complete review. The lemon marinade was a delightful touch. Quite disappointed with the lack of ingredients as listed on their menu. A tasteful and presentable dinner, even after a 20 minute drive back home.
Decided to try their signature aburi Triple Kill $17.95 and signature Temari Sushi Set $17.95, but they’re both $19.95 now, because their prices went up 10%; a fading hand written note on the counter pointed by the staff to whom did not notify me, when I asked “is this your menu?” Lack of communication, but I still went ahead with the purchase and tipped.
The temari sushi set was very flavourful. Cute, fancy and colorful. No Avocado as stated on their menu; perhaps they replaced it with the mackerel fish topped with a green onion paste. Menu stated mango as well. Unsure if the one piece was mango mixed with something else that overpowered it.
Nice experience. Truly. I respect this place and do plan to have a dine-in experience in the future. I am certain and read that they have a high reputation. This review reflects on what did not coincide with their menu as well as communication. Made it home safely and plan to contact the restaurant regarding questions. It is worth your visit.
Expense: $45+ for 2 items.
Thank you.
Their location is actually small—with only 4 tables and a window to look out on. Now for my experience…
On one hand, the atmosphere is nice. Bossa nova playing on the background, cars passing by the window in the silent night, and the noise coming from the kitchen mingling together to give a serene cacophony of sounds. On the other hand, the stench odor, the long waiting time, and the little-to-no service gives me a reason to take one star away from this otherwise perfect experience.
The food isn’t special, just that the presentation is spectacular.
One thing to really take from this reviiew is that this place is good for luxury dining/tasting you do once or twice, but not a go-to location for sushi. There are better places to get them, much cheaper too.
Also, I could’ve finished 10 pages of a book before I could get what I ordered lol
Also, their tuna slices are thick, THICCCK
The restaurant is a small place with 3 tables of 4 & 1 table of 2. I made reservations for a Saturday evening. While the tables were all full when we arrived, no other patrons came while we were there so I don’t think reservations are necessary.
The Good:
The sushi we ordered had a unique flavour and was quite delicious. The pieces themselves were a little small and I’d say the price per roll was on the higher end. While the flavours were different compared to other sushi places, there were a few rolls that we ordered that tasted similar to each other.
The decor was minimal with some Japanese themed banners and a wall of Japan city scape wallpaper.
Opportunity:
My tea was room temperature at best and other than the cook, she might be been the only other staff that day so we hardly saw her except when she came out with food. The service was a little slow. Having said that, the service wasn’t terrible and she was pleasant which is why I used the word “opportunity”.
Overall I’d give this a rating of 3.7.. a little higher than 3.5 but not quite 4.
Would come back and try some different things but the Aburi Salmon Pro and the Magic Sushi cubes really stood out to us!
The golden sand roll is phenomenal so I highly recommend that if you’re stuck on what to order. I hope my photos do the food justice as I am still drooling over what we ordered.
