The service was perfect. The atmosphere was nice enough. Perhaps a bit too dark inside. The condition of the restaurant could be a bit better. It’s dated, which can certainly be charming in a steakhouse. In this case, it’s starting to look a bit run down.

Regarding the food: The crab cakes were fine. A little bready. Average for outside of MD. The fried lobster tail was not worth the price. Bland. I ordered the ribeye. The first one that I received was overcooked (well-done when I ordered medium-rare), but it was seasoned reasonably well. I sent it back to get one that was cooked to the correct temperature. It was cooked perfectly, but was barely seasoned. I ordered the barn potatoes as my side, and those were also barely seasoned.

Honestly, the service saved the whole experience for me.

First time visiting the restaurant on New Year’s Eve and we will not be returning. I would say we were beyond disappointed with our dining experience.

Between the entrees, sides, and dessert we ordered, the only thing we found enjoyable were the oysters casino.

The New York strip came out very overcooked, paired with some very unseasoned broccoli, and mac and cheese.

The prime rib was mediocre at best, but I have had better at a place like Texas Roadhouse or Outback for a fraction of the price.

After boxing our entrees we did place a to-go order for dessert. Only to arrive home and realize the cheesecake was missing the fruit topping we had ordered. (The cheesecake itself was okay-ish, but we did end up throwing over half of it away.)

Hopefully this was just an off-night, but we will not be returning to find out.

Family’s been coming here for years! Perfect date night ambiance with candles on each table. You can watch someone play the piano near the bar, watch a game or become lost in all the UVA sports memorabilia that adorns the wall. Old and new. Princess cut prime rib top notch

If you go to the bar area when they open, expect a meeting of the Hardee Street Boyz. Look up Hardee Street in CVille and you’ll know what I’m referring too. I’m referring to the staff.
Prime rib was good, served at room temperature??? Creamed spinach is not bad, don’t get your hopes up too high. Wife had the filet mignon. Tasty, and well cooked.
As far as your attire, shorts and t-shirt seem to be the dress of the day on Saturday night.
So much potential for this place. Which seems to be dissipating over the years.

They came highly recommended by locals for a great special occasion meal. It was our anniversary, so we decided to try them. We had oysters Rockefeller as our appetizer and it was good and pricing not too high. The steaks were overpriced at $55 per petite filet mignon and that only include one side. My husband got the steak fries and said they weren’t good, I had a baked potato. With a meal such as this you don’t expect salad to be extra, but it was and the waiter didn’t inform us that it would be an extra charge. When we got the bill, the salads were $9 a piece and it was a very small salad with one cucumber, one cherry tomato and a little lettuce! Our total bill before tip was $186!! We did get a complimentary slice of flourless chocolate cake to celebrate our anniversary and it was divine! The food except the steak fries was good and the service was great, but overall I wouldn’t go back.

Great dining experience—this place is a traditional steak house. Yes, the decor is dark and dated, but I personally find that nostalgic and charming. Our food, the filet and prime rib, were expertly cooked and delicious. The homemade key lime pie was some of the best I’ve ever had. I noticed that several of the tables near us were “regulars”. This says a lot about quality and continuity. Venture capitalists have ruined a lot of dining options in Charlottesville. It’s nice to still have something that feels hometown and unpretentious.

Whenever I go to Charlottesville, VA, I always do my best to eat at the Aberdeen Barn Steak House. First discovered this place back in 1980, and it has become my favorite restaurant in the area.

The restaurant is a Steak House and it has some of the best quality steaks around. It has the main dining area and the Sportsman bar. Tonight we sat in the Sportsman bar.

Our server was Eric and he was outstanding. Having worked in the restuarant for over 15 years he was very knowledgeable and attentive. A great recommendation on the wine.

When you arrive you are given bread, breadsticks, butter and cheese spread. Love the cheese spread! As has been my normal course, I always start with the Onion Soup. Love the melted cheese on top. Followed by a Filet with a baked potato. This time we ordered a side of broccoli. Cooked to perfection it was a great cut of meat with the addition of compound butter. My only wish is that they would have bernaise sauce, but no such luck. We finished the meal with the Apple Crisp dessert.

There is a parking lot and some street parking as well.

So when in town, or passing through, I highly recommend this restaurant. Great service. Great food. great times!

Enjoy!

Aberdeen Barn nails the classic steakhouse vibe with its rustic barn aesthetic—dim lighting, quiet ambiance, and a focus on doing meat right. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, easily a highlight. I also loved the baked potato, which came hot, salted, and ready to be dressed just how I like it with sour cream and bacon bits on the side. Don’t skip the mushrooms in sherry—they’re tangy and pair beautifully with the richness of the steak. And for dessert? The molten chocolate cake was everything you’d want: warm, gooey, and indulgent. I’ll definitely be back.

Unfortunately, the food and service missed the mark. The fish was very dry, and the broccoli tasted gritty, almost like it had sand in it. My son was served the wrong steak and had already eaten from it when we noticed. The plate was then given to my dad, which I didn’t feel was acceptable for the cost of the meal. While they did offer a free beer, the overall experience was disappointing.

Solid restaurant And Absolutely fantastic service But If You’re looking for good steak I think you’re better off going to Texas Roadhouse, Significantly cheaper and you just get more bang for your buck. I don’t normally talk about bang for my buck but I think the cheapest steak was around 50 bucks and it goes up from there.
As a whole I think it just needs more…
Like if we’re going to have a strip down menu it needs to be knocked my socks off good and it waas good,, just not that good.
If you’re the restaurant reading this lowering the price making your water glasses bigger and adding some light just a little bit to your dining area
