Prices on the digital menu don’t match what you’re actually charged. It’s not hard to update a screen — that should’ve been fixed by now.
The same two employees always park in the front spots like they’re reserved for “employee of the month.” Parking is limited as it is, and those spots should be left for customers or people with limited mobility.
Food’s decent and the place is clean, but overall, this location needs some work.

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think corn shells should be this dark. Looks and tastes like they were over baked. Food was overly salty on top of it. Never seems like anyone is at the counter when you go, like everyone is hiding in the back. I’ve been here in the past, and the food was much better. Not sure what’s changed or just a bad day. Would have taken them back but was on a lunch break and didn’t have that option. Also prices from door don’t match what was charged.

Food was good. Service nonexistent, ordered off kiosk. Mild salsa was empty and getting dried out. Green salsa was good, spicy. Guacamole liquid was okay but spicy. Had chicken fajita nachos and they were good flavor but kinda sloppy set up. Couldn’t get attention of employees for to go boxes they stayed in back the whole time. Waited ten minutes then left.

Having spent a lot of time Mexico, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for great Mexican food. I was pleasantly surprised to discover Abelardo’s in Coralville. This place has quickly become my favorite local spot for great Mexican food. I was surprised to learn that it is a chain restaurant. Order at the counter or at one of the kiosks.
Everything I’ve had there is good but, for me, the star of the show at Abelardo’s are the steak fajitas. The meat is flavorful, and the accompanying vegetables are perfectly grilled. And you’re going to get a lot more meat than vegetables, unlike at many other places. I can’t get enough of the perfectly cooked rice and beans. The fajitas are served with a huge, hot tortilla, which is perfect for scooping up all the deliciousness. The chips and salsa bar is also a prize. The chips are fresh and crispy, and the various salsas are flavorful and have just the right amount of spice.
If you’re looking for great Mexican food in Coralville, I highly recommend Abelardo’s. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, the price is right, and the staff is friendly. Thanks, Joe. It’s a great place to experience the flavors of Mexico without having to leave Iowa.
Update: Just returned after a few months being away, and it’s still great!
Update: And now a few months later, it’s still great!

Budget friendly & good food! When the right cooks are there. Love the self serve chips and salsa bar, for dine in. Also, the roasted salsa is the best Complaints, not having shrimp tacos but having the ingredients to make them. Also, serving queso with chunks of cheese not fully melted is not very appealing or appetizing.

I got the Steak, Egg & Potato Burrito. It was so FLAVORFUL!!! It was amazing!! My Fiancé got the California Burrito & a Beef Taco with a Fried Shell. Now we are over the moon a place finally does fried taco shells and have other friend options! They also had other food options that most Mexican places don’t anymore that are just delicious. They have Tripe, Cabeza, Lengua. Things that you just dont see anymore that are so delicious and worth it that make the menu amazing. We for sure will be frequenting here from now on!!!!!

Went through the drive through so can not really comment on atmosphere or service but the food was excellent (chorizo and eggs) with rice and beans and plenty of it. They gave me red and verde salsa and both complemented the food well.
