Had the Chorizo and Egg breakfast platter. It comes with a tortilla, rice & beans. Average flavors and quality. Refried beans were not warm enough. Service was pleasant but minimal. Great looking salsa bar. Place was clean and orderly. Great, bright menu board.

This is adequate mexican fast food. It’s better than the chains, but still leaves much to be desired. The food is pretty bland. I did not detect a single grain of salt on my carne asada or in the beans. It was just plain. They make up for this with a bevy of salsas and hot sauces. Which are also just adequate. Nothing special.

Pretty chill spot. We got our food quickly. It was overall good. The torta was a little dry. It could have used some beans. But I still enjoyed the flavor. I drowned it in salsa each bite. The salsa was good and the horchata was sweet. It worked well to balance out the spicy. Definitely coming back to try more items.

We eat here every week. They have plenty of choices for all tastes and the staff are so nice, kinda like seeing a old friend. I just wish the seating was better. The seats are cheap but then again its not a restaurant.

I have ordered food from them three times in the last two months. Each time I ordered chicken tacos have been given beef. The first time the owner argued with me and wanted to see my receipt, which I had not been given. The second time, I double-checked with them and made sure to ask if they were chicken before I left. They said yes, but they were beef. It happened again tonight for a third time, and I didn’t notice until I arrived home. I will not be giving them anymore business

I ordered a Mar y Tierra quesadilla and two fried tacos on the side. And as you can see in the photos. THEY ARE NOT FRIED AT ALL! The tortilla was just cooked on the grill. My Mar and Tierra quesadilla was disappointing half of the quesadilla was filled with just salty carne asada with cheese and the other half was filled with cheese, with about 4-5 shrimp alone NO carne asada on that side. All the other abelardos locations I’ve eaten at spread the meat evenly. I also noticed the amount of carne asada wasn’t filled how other locations fill them. This location was my favorite place to stop for food whenever I stayed the night in Des Moines or driving through. But I guess I’ll be taking my business elsewhere to a different Abelardo’s location in Des Moines or wait till I get to the Omaha/Lincoln location to eat
